Acres, Billings AND McKenzie for Saad, Eli and ?

I can see JB getting in, but would like to see them get another run - at least.

Not good for young players to be in & out so quickly.

Give Acres & Dmac another run at VFL & if they go ok again, see how it sits then.

Round 1 is always very tuff on a player. Ill try to explain.
If you play well during the season for a few games in a row, and then have a shocker. Most peeps say " he had a quiet one this week but hopefully he will bounce back next week" .
But have a bad game in Round 1 and "why was he picked " " what were they thinking" and " drop him to the reserves " gets put out there straight away.
Im not going to panic with that result. Some positives but also a few negatives.
But pretty happy with Membrey & Lonie.
Bruce is going to get a lot of fans if he keeps having a red hot crack like that. Savage is going to repay the faith in drafting him this yr IMO. Got a great foot on him.
Sinclair promising as well:thumbsu:

Havent seen the game yet guys but cams stats are pretty decent went at 80% with one clanger.

maybe his decision making will get better with game experience, his only played 14 or so games if I remember correctly.

With the emphasis on htb rule we seem to have been found out. Need to take an early option and run with it, can't just stand there like a stale bucket of urine trying to come up with a plan. Was really bad in nab III, almost as bad today.
Sit back and relax when Fisher has the ball.
Shenton first got selected by bawling out the coach? Still lingering in Richos mind?
Need that third tall forward.
Need another tall in defence, Goddard.
Eli and Saad vfl.
Brucey, Sav, Steven, great.
Gears, more game time.
Sinkers nice debut.
Kick ins still a lottery.
Tackling pretty good all round but still being stepped too easily too often.
Not so Roo reliant or so it seems.
Looking forward to fine tuning for next week.

My thoughts:

I thought Membrey was good first game, he did drop a couple of marks, a critical one in the last quarter, but he is competitive for sure
Lonie has some tricks, i thought he would have a shot in the 3rd from the boundary but did the team thing, hoping he would let fly with a shot, he set up a few really good passages of play
Savage, best game for the saints I would think? Great long goals in the last quarter for us
Geary, Montagna, Armitage, Stevens, Schneider Roo all played great for us
Shenton did really good things i thought in defense, good intercept marks but his disposal out of defense was bad at times with one passage resulting in a turn over and goal
Bruce played well, i felt he was a bit quiet early in the 3rd but went bang, good player for us today, should have had 3 goals, he ran and presented a lot
longer i thought did ok, even clunked some marks for a change
weller was good

i saw nothing from saad although i think he had a negating role. we need at least a goal out of him today, i must say he was smashing into shaw with everything he had
eli was quiet, i didnt notice him much at all, not sure where he was playing
sinclair made quick impact when he came on the ground, he set up a nice bit of play that resulted in geary marking uncontested in 3rd quarter, looked like a pretty big lad to me

we should have won. in the 3rd geary kicked it out on the full from a great passage of play and roo didn't make the distance from another good passage of play in the same quarter, we wasted some chances from good play.

i felt that players were doing the team thing in the forward line when maybe some of them could have had a ping like savage in the last quarter, also in the 2nd quarter we had a 5 minutes period where our disposal was appalling with 1 turnover goal as a result

gws played well, but they did score 3 goals from 50 metre penalties, and at least one other from a free kick, not sure what this shows that we were 2nd to the ball but man the last quarter i was furious that lonie didn't get a free and felt the 1st 50m penalty to gws was probably there but the other 2 were a disgrace. enough about the umpiring but i must admit was going ballistic at umps at the game for the first time since morrabin days

anyways, one that got away. saad or eli for billings next week I would think, still think we need another big forward in the forward line, love to see mcmartin or white in there next week as well

Was at the game today and agree with most things being said. Few points:
-Think we may have found something with bruce as a forward, i think he has the potential to be a quality forward (he's only roughly 20 games into his career).
-membrey was good apart from a couple of spilled marks.
- need some pace in the engine room, too reliant on steven to break the lines in the midfield (sav is good at doing so from the backline). This should be a major target next draft
-was impressed with Billy today, i noticed a bit more of a presence around the ground with a few good marks. Think he will keep improving with more confidence.
- happy with lonie and sinclair, had more poise than some of our senior players most of the time.
-geary was terrible in my books, don't know how he got one of the best. will be great to have billings, webster and d-mac come in who can all use the footy.

If I see 1 more post with people mentioning Shentons stats as some sort of evidence that justifies his place in the team I'll lose it.
Watch the ****ing game, watch his efforts. He's an absolute ******* who wouldn't get a game at any other club.

Geary terrible? I must've been at a different game.

How funny is that. He is just crap. Should never play for us again.

Also agree with much being said here in terms of best players etc.

Does anyone know why Roberton was subbed? I thought he was one of our better players. I hope it is not injury related....

We are lacking pace and run in our midfield and this is what we need to target at the end of the year be it our 1st draft pick, a priority pick or a free agency get!!

Thought Membrey, Lonie and Sinclair showed enough to play next week and continue to play (subject to player loads being managed).

I think the thing with Shenton is that he hesitates a bit too much. He should go with his first instinct. he did some good things but did a lot of poor things as well. I also don't like his kicking style - he kicks the ball high and it hangs which allows the defender plenty of time to spoil, (as opposed to that lower trajectory kick)

Thought the umpires were inconsistent. You can't pay a free to one side and not to the other for the same thing.....umpire number 31 was terrible.

Shenton is being thrown under the bus by being made the designated kicker-in-er. His strength is in the grunt stuff, 1%ers and tackles and just grabbing the ball. He isn't an elite user of the ball, but in last year's role, the one that got him elevated from the rookie list, that wasn't really an issue. The problem is that he's now being used for a role that just doesn't match his attributes.

Savage is probably the best kick at the club, how he isn't taking kick ins is beyond me. Let the Panther get back to getting his hands dirty.

You're right but once Webster and others return he won't. I'd rather Simpkin than Shenton personally....

I thought the same with Shenton, he was good in my book. Geary was good too both had a couple of clangers but seriously Shenton was getting the ball and using it well mostly. There was one bad passage of play where he couldn't find an option and no one presented so he went long to the boundary and the ball was marked and came bak for a goal.

Just glad we didnt play Adelaide today. Holy shit...

Was cool to see them sing the song with the cheer squad after the game too.

Im writing our games off. Its going to be a long year so ill just be looking for highlights - Savage, Bruce and Membrey all very good. Dunstan will be better for the run.

Love Richo as a communicator and a development coach, still trying to work out what our game style is supposed to be though...

All of Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and the Bulldogs have brought in new coaches with clear and obvious game plans.

Not writing Richo off at all but something just feels... off.. about how we play game to game.

Bruce and Membrey were both huge positives, but I still wish they were more demanding. Membrey in particular has a bad habit of getting behind his player, but hey, nice to have a forward line for once.

Savage was excellent, and is the sort of player who'll get better as the team gets better. Imagine in 2018

Our club has clearly learnt nothing from The Simpsons. T-shirt guns KILL PEOPLE!

All those other teams had much more to work with and had already had a few years getting some of the basics down. For us it's way to early to tell and almost pointless to judge game plans at this stage. It's probably not really worth considering just yet. We are still behind those other teams in nearly every aspect.

IMO what we are seeing now is Richo focusing on defensive pressure and the defensive side of the game before getting us to learn the attacking side. You can't do it all at once.

Oh number 31 was an umpire!!! I thought GWS had run out of guernseys and he just got to wear a green t-shirt

-Longer did the job but lost focus a couple of times. Once I noticed him dropping the head and walking away when he didn't expect the ball to come his way; it did, and he could have spoiled if he was alert.
-Membrey was great, certainly cemented his spot next week. Honestly forgot he was only 20!
-Brucey was good. Earned his spot, competed, defended and attacked fiercely.
-Umpires - not often this happens but they directly influenced the outcome of this game. Several incorrect calls robbed us of shots on goal and gifted them to GWS.
-Bugg is a dog and I cheered loudly when he was put on his arse repeatedly after his cowardly snipe. Should be gone for weeks.
-Lonie was incredible, how about that composure?!
-Sinclair should start on-field next week.
-Shenton, Roberton - a few brain fades but deserve to keep their spots.
-Cameron, didn't earn the ball once tonight. Several soft gimmes from the umpires and other uncontested turnovers. We let this scarecrow kick his score tonight. Impacted on the contest: zero.
-Savage had some very impressive moments, good to see him continue to improve.
-Dunstan competed hard but was rarely rewarded for his effort, unfortunately.
-Montagna; was under a bit of doubt but flew the flag strongly when his captain had been sniped.

Looking foward to having Billings, Acres and Hickey back in the team. Who they might replace is another issue.
