Good morning on this glorious game day! How are you watching the game today? At the ground, at home, at the pub? With your family, a couple of mates?

All the latest thoughts, news, predictions, post them here. Who'll be our best on ground? Kick our first goal?

Life is always better on game day morning!

I'm actually in Melbourne for the next two weeks. So I'm going over to my dad's place to watch this one with my daughter, thanks to his Foxtel and massive TV. Three generations of Saints tragics, all watching together.

If we break even at the contested ball and stoppages/clearances, I reckon we're a shot. I reckon we have the firepower up front and the defensive match-ups to cause them problems.

My better half suggested i go around to my brothers place to watch it so my yelling and swearing at the TV doesnt wake the baby:p
And of course it would be rude to rock up to his place without a slab of beer on my shoulder:D
Go SAINTS!! Go FROTHIES!!

Big wins can define a young side.

I don't think we can do the Hawks just yet though. Still, very excited for the game!

I just want a close game, i think we are a sniff, but hey I dont want to jinx the team. Our forward line kind of looks good.

Anything within 30 points of the hawks and I think i am happy. Weather should be ok.

Launceston area
Mostly sunny day. Morning fog patches. Slight (20%) chance of a shower this afternoon and evening. Winds southeasterly 15 to 20 km/h becoming light in the middle of the day.

Then old man is coming over to my place and a massive TV in the middle of hipsterville.

I've said it on other threads, not expecting to win but wanting us to execute our game plan like we did against the Pies and Port for 3 out of 4 quarters....the loss of Webster and Dunstan is significant IMO. Luke's influence in the contest whilst Webster's disposal out of the back half combined with his ability to shut his opponent down will be sorely missed.

If I had Cyril in my supercoach I would make him captain!!!!!!!!!

My hope is that Minch and Lee play well...

Not sure if I can watch it because of local footy but may pop upstairs and have a look. We are a very slight chance. its all about mids and stopping their run. The Hawks aren't a greatly contested side but will beat you on the outside with their great skills. We need to close the game down so they don't use that run otherwise it will be a big loss. If we can make it a low scoring affair we are a chance. Windy conditions would help. The big stat today will be uncontested ball. We need to match them in that.

Yeah im a bit disapointed weve got those few injuries. Dont think we can win but i wouldve liked to have our best team on the park to see how far we can push the Hawks.
Really interested to see how Tom Lee goes. To be honest i dont think he's got what it takes at AFL level but he looks like a very good VFL player.
Been a bit of a wasted career so far. Unfortunately for Tom he has always been injured or coming back from injury so has never been fit enough in my opinion.
But the club has put a fair bit of effort into reinventing him as a backman in the VFL havnt they. So they must see something in him.
I have my doubts about him turning it around but id love to be proven wrong and im hoping he has a good solid game.
GO SAINTS
Good luck Tom:thumbsu:

Well I'm looking for a top effort which would mean we have a chance to win. When the ball bounces at the start of the game, the scores are even, so we just need to make sure we kick more than them! Looking forward to it.

He was pretty solid under Watters and had a good goal average as a forward. The shoulders were a big set back he had them operated on only for them to keep popping out, they grafted spurs on his bone to stop it at the start of last season so he is playing for the first time since being at the Saints with good shoulders. I reckon we need to give him a go before passing judgement. He played well against a strong North team in the NAB with all their best tall forwards in. I used to hear for years that J Pod was only good at VFL level and it took until his late 20s for anyone to give him a chance. He was excellent for a few years there at the Cats.

Yeah like i said id love to be proven wrong with my thoughts on him.
If we could get him up and firing we could end up with quite a few "swing men" in our side. Lee, Carlisle, Goddard,Gilbo.
That would make us harder to match up on in the future. Fingers crossed for him.

Say, is this the first day we've ever had the Kung Fu master combination playing?
They played together when Geelong pumped us by nearly 100 points in 2014, let's hope that we have a better result today with them switching ends of the ground :)

I think we could get that up as a recruiting model....just have to find some guys called, Chuck, Norris, Charles, Bronson, Jackie, Chan and with the Chinese expansion we might get Chow, Yung and Fat. We have a Steven already just need a Segal.

I'm hoping the inclusions Acres, Lee and Templeton; together with retainees Minchington and Sinclair all show they are worthy.
Gilbert being forced back into defence will make a difference to our midfield - he has been an unexpected positive for us there, hopefully Acres and Templeton will balance that. Gilbert's versatility is one of the delightful discoveries that Richo has revealed. Played a significant role in the midfield early then moved forward in the second half and kicked 2 goals, now finds himself in defence

Actually they played twice together in 2014.

A 70 point loss to Port and a 94 point loss to the cats.
