If you are going to a BBQ and have to take a salad, what do you put in it and what kind of dressing do you use? Do you go for a classic or do you make one up yourself with your own special combination?

I intend to use your recomendations for the up coming summer BBQ's and see how my friends like them. Whoever's salad gets the best feed back gets a thankyou from me :)

I'm a ceaser salad fan

Pasta salad for me, shell pasta, crated carrot, cream, bit of pineapple juice for added sweetness, good stuff. Great on burgers.

Or spirals with finely sliced hot salami, capsicum, olives, tomato paste and chilli.

Sensational

Nice, would certainly give the insides a good clean out

edit: 5 to go

My favourite used to be, pepperoni, onion & tomatoes with italian dressing, in my pre vegetarian days, now it is just coleslaw & potato salad.

Summer salad - chinese cabbage, red onion, radish, pine nuts, mango, grated apple.

Citrus dressing - orange juice, lime juice, olive oil, chopped coriandar, chopped mint, pepper.

Spot on with rare beef, lamb, roo, or anything really.

Salads are great. You can put anything in it if it has a decent dressing, then you have one fine salad.

You vegeterians don't know what you're missing out on. How long ago did you decide to become a freak, and why?

Salad is an important aspect of many meals, but should never take focus away from the particular breed of dead animal being cooked into obliviion, as meat is always going to be hte prime source of nutrition, and more importantly, taste, for our species.

the best salad is entirely dependant on what else is being eaten.

Can you count potato salad as a real salad? Don't get me wrong, I love a good potato salad - but it just doesn't seem like a 'proper' salad to me.

For some reason, I don't like any dressing when you have a garden salad, or a caesar salad. Just doesn't quite work for me.

Johnny, actually we do, because most of us ate meat before we became vegetarians. I became a vegetarian nearly three years ago, because I could no longer justify animals dying so I could eat, when there are other alternatives.

Calling someone a freak because they don't like eating dead animals is bit rich, I could say that people eating dead animls are freaks, but each to their own.

Love the potato salad, however had a waldorf salad last night which was spectacular (consists of apple, celery, walnuts and mixed with a mayonaisse sort of dressing -delightful summer salad).

However, as Homer Simpson once said "You don't win friends with salad"

As far as Green salad dressing goes:

Paul Newman's ceaser dressing (jar of), then add:
Teaspoon of lemon juice
Tablespoon of english mustard
Tablespoon of crushed garlic
Mix

Works a treat
