Just heard a rumour that the AFL has started an investigation into salary cap breach by our club.
Has anybody else heard this??????

I'd be suggesting troll alert, one post and this is it?

but just fyi we are about 95% of the salary cap ATM

how is that to greet a fellow supporter to this site.
Just trying to find some truth in a rumour that i heard being spread around, how about you get off your high horse.

if your not a troll bigsainter welcome, but it was pointed out in the hun that we are well below 97%, I have also heard that we are below 96% in another article.

That would indicate that we are around the 95% or just above.

basically we have a good program for players.

A lot of the young guns reiwoldt, ball, goddard actually get paid a piddly allowance COMPARED to what they earn (somewhere in the vicinity of 50k to 100K) the rest of the money is in a trust fund with 1 parent, their lawyer and their manager, so they have their money to use for investments and the like later on in life.

I think the era when we give kids 50% of their wage when the sign up and the rest on july 1 is long over.

I think guys st Kilda is actively trying to develop decent people as well as decent footballers (to some degree).

also luke ball and goddard are amongst those doing tertiary studies at st kilda as well.

I believe money is released from the trust fund for things like buying houses or shares or similar.

I could be way of base here, but that is what I heard.

Dan it sounds like you talking about alot of backended deals that are going to cause problems in the future, ala Carlton.
By the way my name is big sainter not Troll or newbie

Joffa, knock off the abuse. Everyone's entitled to a fair go, especially on the Saints board.

I haven't heard about it, but I seriously doubt anything of the sort would be investigated, as I understood we have handed in our numbers already, and they've been checked off.

The only way this would be happening is if we've signed big new deals, and we've only done Hamills to this stage.

Doubt it highly.

These are the kinds of things that we are forced to put up with from opposition supporters.

We were fined a significant amount for lodging the player contracts late, I'm sure the AFL has had ample opportunity to investigate whether any of the clubs have exceeded their TPP limit.

Well spotted Joffa - I suppose the post count made you suspicious.

Looks like some nerdy little opposition supporter trying to find some foundations for his pet theory.

You have to imagine that come another 3 or 4 seasons, the Saints will have a tricky job of retaining all the young guns that they currently enjoy on their list.

As soon as contracts expire, if you can't get early extensions, then guys like Reiwoldt, Koschitzke, Goddard, Bell, Dal Santo, Clarke & Clarke, Brooks, Montagna, Guerra, Maguire, Fisher, etc will be prime targets.

Like it or not, that is the result of having salary caps & drafts.

if we lose players, I'd rather we go the port strategy/brisbane strategy and extract a high price in draft picks.

ie a luke ball would cost a top 5 draft pick and another first round draft pick, etc.

etc.

there is always the threat a player will do a jade rawlings/nick stevens, but I think st kilda has better player management than that.

This sort of possibility has been brought up in numerous interviews with our coaching staff, selectors and president, all of whom say we have been managing our list from day 1 to fit all of our players into our cap, and that losses will be minimal.
We've been planning 5 years ahead in terms of list managment.

Target them all you like, I'd be surprised if any of those players left voulentarily.

PS, while I'd love Peter Bell on our list, I think you'll find he plays for Freo!

So sorry, my bad, Ball, not Bell, kinda like your "voulentarily"

As for the rest of it, IMO, it's a bit naive to believe that all your future stars will be able to resist big dollar offers from other clubs.

I ask the question, if a rival company of your employer offered you BIG money to join them, and do the same tasks, what would be your response?
