I thought he was impressive in only his second hitout in the senior team. He was composed through traffic and seemed to be defensively accountable.

I agree Haso and I loved the way he took the game on and was always accurate via hand and foot. He got some great handballs away in tight congestion. I was very impressed with his game last night I have to admit.I thought he was impressive in only his second hitout in the senior team. Just needs a bit more experience to adjust to the tempo of AFL footy and then he'll be off and running.

As expected, there were a number of standouts for the Lions with Sam Docherty listed as the team’s best.
“Sam played across half-back in the first half, but we put him on the ball after half-time,” Harding said.
“He was very, very good in the second half and got his hands on the footy a lot. It was definitely Sam’s best game for the year.”
Sam Docherty will make his long-awaited senior AFL debut this Sunday evening against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.
It’s been more than 12 months in the making for Docherty, who was selected by the Club in the opening round of the 2011 AFL National Draft (Pick No.12 overall).
Upon arriving in Brisbane, he underwent hip surgery which delayed the start of his first ever pre-season campaign. It meant that he probably didn’t reach peak form and fitness until late in the season.
The hard work seems to have paid off, with Docherty now set to become the 150th player since the merger to play in a senior match with the Lions. He will represent the Club wearing the celebrated Number 1 guernsey, which has previously been worn two of Fitzroy’s all-time greatest players – Kevin Murray and Paul Roos.
But Docherty will be hoping to create his own history in the famous guernsey – starting this Sunday against the Kangaroos.

Good luck on Sunday Sam...no doubt there will be a fair few car loads heading down the South Gippsland Highway to watch Phillip Island's favourite son make his AFL debut.
if so, there is a great opportunity for him to present Doc with his jumper. If not roosy, it should be the other great man. What an honour either way, if he is as fraction as good as either of them, we have a star on our hands

Chooky Fowler.Mitch Clark should be available or even fly Des Headland over.
Nah, I reckon Brad Boyd or Bulldog Murray would be worthy presenters too.

The Brisbane Lions have made some bold decisions at the selection table ahead of their Round 4 clash against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium, opting to play two first-gamers – Sam Docherty and Marco Paparone.
While it’s generally quite uncommon for an established side to blood two debutants in the one match, Assistant Coach Adrian Fletcher told lions.com.au that Docherty and Paparone simply could longer be overlooked.
“One of our key selection philosophies is to give in-form players opportunities,” Fletcher said. “Sam and Marco have both been in terrific form, so we’re prepared to play them. It doesn’t matter when you came into the system.”
Fellow debutant Docherty was also busy with 20 disposals and five rebound 50s – the second most of any player in the team.
South Australian Jared Polec and Victorian trio Sam Docherty, Billy Longer and Patrick Karnezis are out of contract at the end of this season and have attracted the interest of clubs in their home states.
List manager Rob Kerr told AFL.com.au they are required players and "part of our future planning."
“I had to re-watch the last two minutes last night when I got home I couldn’t remember it,” the 19-year old said on Monday morning.
“I remember Zorko taking the kick Bungy (Ash McGrath) taking the mark half a second before the siren went. It was a bit surreal, fairytale finish for Ash in his 200th which was good.
“He just told us to back in our fitness. All he asked us at three-quarter time was to run, the boys had a crack and we willed ourselves over the line really, that was about it.
