Just a query for those of you who may have ventured to Princess Park.

I got the impression by watching him run around that we may have a Mitch Hahn on our hands. The way he runs, kicks the ball, his endeavor... there was some glaring similarities.

He runs extremely hard, his kickin is effective but not necessarily polished... And he seems to not be afraid of a contest. Even his running stlye seems similair...

I may be wrong, but i saw a Bulldogs game on Foxtel the other day and it hit me...

I think he looks like hell be a hardworkin inside midfielder, not necessailry polished, but with grunt and great work ethic. A very team oriented player much like Hahn

Thoughts...

He's absolutely NOTHING like Mitch Hahn, IMO.

Hahn is a powerful 188cm, 95kg type that can play as a medium forward or a ruck-rover.

Iles is a lithe 182cm HBF/rover that needs space to operate, although he's not too bad at making it.

He reminds me more of Ben Johnson in many ways, but without the unusual kicking action.

Another question that most would like to know for sure. How is his name pronounced?

1) I-als
2) El-ay
3) Ie-les

Pretty sure it is number 1, but before I saw him play, I thought it was number 2.

Like vinnie said, he's a bit Johnno-esque in his darting run out of defence, but with a cleaner kick.

One thing I've noticed, and was a concern of Wiz's, is that he has a Cole-ish habit of trying to do too much and getting pinged.

He's done it in every game I've seen thus far of his. I'm not saying he can't improve on it, just hoping it isn't permanent.

Sam didn't "standout", but he did a couple of nice things, like you expect from a first year player.
We can't judge him on a few performances... give him time at Williamstown.

player to watch, knows how to find the ball. Doesnt seem special in any particular area, but in the first half against the shinboners, when he was around the pill something happened. There is something about him i think, quite exciting.

Yeah, was deemed suprising not to be picke dup in the National Draft by Malthouse, and in the end will be a worthy pick up in a Pre-Season draft. I think he will play senior footy in a dominant team in years to come.
