All this talk of Ruckmen, etc was just wondering what were people's thoughts of him? I thought i read that people were suggesting that he wouldn't be at the club next year, though I thought he had only been on the rookie list for a year? Am i wrong?

unfortunately not cutting the mustard

has improved a lot since he started but i think he will be nothing more than a solid VFL ruckman at the best of times!!

Unfortunately for Sammy unless he really lifts his game, he'll be playing out his career as an extra backup to the seniors and play a lot of his football at VFL level.
With Warnock likely to join us, and with Kreuzer and Hampson ahead of Jacobs, I don't see where he will fit.
So if he gets another chance in 09, he seriously needs to lift his game to another level in order to progress to senior level.

I think he's shown potential but not enough to upgrade him to the senior list

Maybe drop him and redraft him as a rookie again

Sam, who is still training with the Blues, is expected to be secured as a third year rookie by the club, if he isn’t collected by another club on AFL draft day. “Carlton has confirmed they will take me as a rookie at least for next year,” he said. "So nothing has really changed, as I’m still doing the same training and am as fit as I’ve ever been. “I’m just working hard on the track and doing plenty of PBs (personal bests); 2009 will be a important season for me.”

"Off the record, on the QT, and very hush-hush."

What's the point of that when he will be probably be cut the next year, you can tell with most players, who is likely to make it pretty much straight away.
I know.

Just look at Porplyzia and Robertson who were cut by their clubs.

The rookie lists have expanded next year to compensate for the GC bending over the next three drafts.

I guess it all depends if they want him for another year,i'm guessing if he is taken as a 3rd year rookie,we have 1 rookie less to recruit. I rather stock it with all the bottom age players in the draft.I would hope there is a couple of good ones who could have been top 20 the next year if they played on in the Under 18.
