Gday guys,
Gotta say, Ive been watching your forum pretty closely thinking about putting some money on you to make the GF. Your team is looking pretty awesome this year, especially with all these KPP's coming from everywhere for you to complement the current crop of midfielders.
One question for you though comes for my dreamteam Im making currently.
Who do you think would be a better, Sampi at $168500 or Doogs at $162400? You might think its an easy answer, Sampi, but when you look at it more closely its a harder decision.
Sampi kicks goals but doesnt get a huge amount of possession.
McDougall is much the same put seems to get his mits on it a bit more.
Both of these players are on the rise but I have no idea who will really breakthrough in 2004. If Sampi is gonna play in the midfield its an easy choice but I think he's staying up forward.

Cheers

Hey, thats a pretty tough one, but unless you want to gamble I would probably say go for Sampi- McDougall might have a bigger potential upside, but Sampi has already got some runs on the board- he had some issues with fitness which prevented him from playing out four quarters last year, but if that is resolved, he should play out more of games, and probably get more of the pill as well this year. As for where he'll play, in the preseason, Worsfold threw Sampi around a fair bit- mostly up forward, but also had time in the backline and the occasional run on the ball- I'd say that might continue throughout the year, so yeah, go for Sampi.

McDougall will probably play in a fairly linear leading FF role, we're hoping for a huge year from him, but I don't think anyone would expect him to get a large number of touches

Sampi was doing some amazing things as a 16 year old playing league football for Souths. I hope he continues on and raises the bar for himself this season for us.

Both great players.

The question might be: which player was the better use of a top-10 pick?

Drafted at 6 in 2001 - the same year that Freo traded 1, 20 and 36 for Croad and Mcpharlin. What a disaster that was. And what a great grab for us - Judd, Sampi, Seaby and Hansen. We may never see another like it

Poor Sampi had all the skill but too lazy. Instead we should have Jimmy Bartel
Having Cousins Judd Kerr Bartel C.Fletcher Stenglein would have been Amazing

Sampi is easily the biggest disappointment of my time watching West Coast. If those skills where put into the body of someone with some sort of heart we would have had a gun.

Sampi had plenty of heart, was just unfit and suffered depression.

Sampi's relatives put an immense amount of pressure on him to provide for them and as we all saw, he wasn't able to handle those demands.

It's a crying shame he wasn't in a position to sustain a long and meaningful career with West Coast. Some of the things I watched him do at South Fremantle, especially in his formative years, were freakish.

Sampi was one of, if not the most naturally talented footballers we've had. Such a shame he wasn't able to fully realize that talent
