Sampras is definitely on the flip side of his career now... Nike may have admitted that he was boring (now there's a shocker! ) when they dropped him from their endorsement roster before the Australian Open this year, but his form has been declining for quite some time.

I'll say this-- he's the one dominant American athlete of the last generation NOT to inspire American kids to want to play his game. No charisma whatsoever, the anti-Michael Jordan/Mia Hamm/Landon Donovan.

Cheers,
William

How long before he announces his retirement?

Soon, I hope, Slax-- for the reasons I mentioned, and more...

*ex-champion
*on the down side of his career
*no hope of winning another major
*not viable in minds of advertisers for endorsements
*can't shake the tag of being "dull as dishwater"

Now would be a good time for him to quit.

Cheers,
William

Andre Agassi has always been that guy though....he has charisma.

Anna has charisma.....but it does help if you can play a bit.

Pete was one of the best (if not the best) to play the game.
It certainly is time for him to GIVE IT AWAY.

all the big names appear to be dropping like flies.

Lets just hope that Lleyton and all our aussie fellas can keep up the good form, theres a chance that hewitt and phillipoussis can meat in the final isnt there? coz theyre in different halves of the draw.......

GO FLIP!!

But from a biased SA point of view... C'MONNNNNNNNNNNNNNN HEWITT.

AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE... OI OI OI

(go Wayne Arthurs and Scott Draper too I guess)

Just gotta say.....LOVE ALL THE SPORT AT THE MOMENT!!!!! (I know that's not a normal thing for a girl to say, maybe thats why I'm single at the moment ;) ) World Cup, Grand Prix, AFL, Wimbledon.

I just can't get enough!!!

Go all you Aussie boys!!!! (Its nice to have more than one to cheer for)

Sampras said that he will be back next year because he doesn't want to leave Wimbledon like this.

He also blamed having to play on Court 2 for his loss, saying he's not used to playing on small courts.

Sampras will I think try to go out with a bang at the US Open, and will probably call it a day at the end of this year.

The draw is pening up nicely for my main man Stefan Koubek. Has a pretty easy trek into the 4th where he will probably meet Guillermo Canas who as a South American, is better on the clay.

Scott Draper still in it?, all i can say is wow. I hope Lleyton, Scud and Arthurs keep progressing through the tournament, Go Aussie!!

It's not surprising that Sampras is struggling. It must hard to find the motivation to get up early and train all day every day when you have done everything, have a boat load of cash and have great looking wife laying next to you. The men's competition is so tough that natural ability by itself is not good enough. A drop in performance of only a few percent can cost you dearly.
