Hey guys, know your hurting but your man monster was awesome for the 2nd week in a row. :thumbsu:

Felt our guys in the 2nd half started running 20metres towards Freo's goal at every stoppage cos hed just thump it forward.

Gun.

Props for Pav too :thumbsu:

I thought some of his decisions cost us when the game was still able to be won. Shame after the game of his career last week.

I thought his game was servicable - a lot different coming up against expereinced pair in white and Jamar than last week against blake & some unknown.

as the game wore on he lowered his colours. Coundn't buy a clearance in teh second half.

Agree he made some disposal errors in the last quarter but don't think you can blame the lack of clearances on Sandi.

The amount of times he tapped the ball straight down someone's throat and they fumbled the ball and it either ended in another ball up or Melbourne running away with it was ridiculous. Mark Johnson fumbled it 3 times in a row at one stage and he wasn't the only one - Schammer and Macca are simply useless.

Also the times he slammed it forward to the half forward line only to find our half forwards not there to run on to it and take advantage...

There's either a lack of talk between ruck and rovers or some very flat footed dumb rovers....When a ruckmen bashes it that far free of a contest it should be an automatic inside 50 and shot on goal in the way Clark Keating used to do it with Brisbane in their premiership years.

Also Sandi was always going to be worn down by day's end after having Jamar try to knee him in the guts and legs at every bounce down without getting one free kick for having a guy jump at him rather than the ball.

Our small half forwards weren't playing in front, so any moves like the thump we turning out badly - but it was a good tactic.

Sandi was rucking against two guys who went into the game with the specific goal of nullifying him, and they didn't really have much luck - thats 2 players vs 1 of ours, so i think in the end the team won on that one.

Agreed, Sandilands was tapping the ball down people's throats all day and the only people who were doing anything with it were Bell and Palmer. We really, really missed Haze today, he normally has an absolute day out against melbourne for some reason.

i agree with stronzo, all great teams have two ruckmen in the lineup.

That was really annoying me by the end. Jamar was just staring straight at Sandi, running into him with his knee raised and only flicking his eyes up at the last second.

And because the ump was letting him get away with it every time Sandi had to start watching the other ruckman instead of the ball to make sure he didn't end up with a corkie or broken ribs.

I remember the club sent a please explain to the AFL a year or two ago about the umps letting other teams' ruckmen run straight at the big fella without looking at the ball. But as usual the umps aren't interested in umpiring the rules consistently for all players. Compare Sandi's treatment to Dean Cox - who gets a free everytime an opposition ruckman looks at him funny.

The poor guy was fatigued by 3 quarter time, he could barely coordinate a handball. Bradley must play against the Bullies, and along with Jonno spend 40 - 50 minutes in the ruck between them.

Exactly Esti.

This has been going on forever to Sandi against teams who know they have no chance to win clearances unless they hurt him throughout the day.

Starts happening more and more whenever he is having a good game.

As you said Sandi had to start jumping into Jamar before reaching up for the ball.

It seems bewildering to me that we'd waste a tactic that clears the congestion we often struggle to clear otherwise by not being ready for a massive spike by Sandi.

This is a tactic that could get us easier goals at times when we're struggling to win clearances or arrest an oppositions momentum.

Think it just comes back to lazy players again not making the effort to be in front.

Like you said, Sandi beat two players, so the rest of our 21 players only had 20 to contend with realistically and whenever Sandi went off the ground Melbourne got on top in the clearances and it took us five minutes or so with Sandi back on the ground to stop the rot.

Because of this Warnock simply has to play as back up against a ruck duo.

I think the only thing you can do to stop players fumbling taps is to tap it to Palmer, Bell or Solly when they are on the ball and when they aren't, just spike it toward half forward whenever possible and stop trying to finess a tap to players who constantly fumble and cost us a clearance.

The umps put the whistle away in the 2nd half to try and even up the game, that much was obvious. Look at how technical the umpiring was in the first half compared to the second.

Yup, a couple of players like Johnson and Schammer would have needed new pants by the end of the game, they were shitting themselves everytime the ball got tapped to them. There were actually a couple of comical scenes were it was like "ok how many times in the space of this one play can Johnson fumble the ball?"

If silver service is being provided and these guys still can't get clearances then they shouldn't be in the side.

Exactly. Think Gilmore caught a few crapper teams unaware toward the end of last year with his mobility. But we did that through necessity. Now we actually have 2 ruckmen we should use them, esp. when we are playing a team with a proven ruck duo.

Warnock must play.

And guys like Schammer and Johnson should never be played on the ball (if at all) ever again.

I'd prefer to see Brock in there, at least you know he'd have a crack when the ball hit the ground, and if he gets beaten at least its a kid who might learn from his errors rather than a hack who will never get better!

But Gilmore didnt win that many hitouts last year he got clearances off the other ruckman and possessions around the ground. Teams are now paying him more attention and he doesnt have the same amount of room. Against White it was not a smart tactic as he is still mobile enough to go with Gilmore.

You'll have to forgive me, because being out of town, I've only seen the one match this year (thankfully the derby), and maybe the distance gives me some objectivity, but I have to agree here. You want the best out of your ruckman, play two of them and give your primary a spell up forward, where they can provide a tall marking target. If you can't find room up forward, becuse you have too many forwards, then trade/delist some.

But not playing Warnock? IIRC, this is the guy that is out of contract at the end of the season, that other teams are keen to get, and we're not playing him? Instead we're pinch-hitting with Gilmore and Johnson who just aren't ruckmen? Solution seems kinda simple to me. Play two dedicated rucks (all the good teams do it!), spell them forward/on the bench. Show Warnock you value him at the club, and maybe, just maybe he'll re-sign with us. I sure as hell wouldn't be if I wasn't even getting a regular game and was being overlooked for non-ruckmen.

The thing is though that Warnock was average in the AFL matches he played and has not been that good since going back to West Perth.

Too many 'ruckmen' seem to think this is a legitimate tactic and it appears the umpires agree with them. He can't allow it to change his game so he needs to find a way to stop them doing it. Lets see what happens if Sandi gives it a go and knocks a few down himself - it might cost him a week or two, but if it puts a few doubts in their minds, it could be worth it.

I'm not trolling but you guys are complaining about Jamar when he did nothing wrong.

He did appear to be agressive at the ruck contest(nothing wrong with that) but he was looking at the ball. And he actually had more hitouts to advantage(30%) than Sandilands'(28%) wich would indicate that he was consetrating on the ball.

But i felt like we did pretty well against Sandi on the weekend.(Or as good as you can against the big man)

We had Jamar play very agressive and try to "soften him up" and then we had Jeff White run him ragged around the ground wich left Sandi pretty tired in the second half. But Sandilands is a very good player, and still had plenty of hitouts.

But Freo defienitly have to bring in Warnock to help him out because he needs to have a rest, ecspecially when a smaller more athletic ruckman like White is making him run all over the ground.....
