Noarlunga Oval - close to home, grass everywhere, can be cold in winter

Richmond Oval - good grandstand,no grass though

Alberton Oval - all concrete, the asphalt is fairly unappealing, old stands too

Prospect Oval - similar to Alberton but no asphalt (thank god)

Elizabeth Oval - takes forever to get there but is a good oval, grass everywhere.

Woodville Oval - nice oval, grass galore, ordinary stand though

Unley Oval - not a good place to watch footy, everyone is crammed together

Norwood Oval - pretty ordinary, big stand but the outer is woeful

Glenelg Oval - grass everywhere, a comfortable place to watch footy, good stands too.

THE TOP 3 ARE - GLENELG,WOODVILLE AND NOARLUNGA

THE WORST 3 ARE - ALBERTON,PROSPECT AND ELIZABETH

You've forgotten to include Adelaide Oval. I can excuse you for leaving out Footy Park, as that's only used for SANFL finals.

With any luck we can soon include York Park...

cheers

I've only seen two of your local grounds. When us Roys fans used to go over for Crow v Roy matches, we'd make the time to see a SANFL match on the same weekend. The team I barracked for in the SANFL was Woody-WT, so went where they went on the two occasions that I was there.

That took me to Glenelg the first time, yep a great oval with a great outer (I always prefer terraces on the far side from the stand, if its grass rather than terrace I'm still happy). It was a great match, Glenelg taking out a big lead, but being overhauled by some miraculous effort by the eagles in the last quarter.

The other time I went, I attended a match at Woodville Oval. This one was pretty well the same as Glenelg Oval for me, though the quality of the match wasn't as good. Can't even remember who we played, or who won, come to think of it. But once again, plenty of standing room, so I was happy.

Footy Park is a nice ground, but, like eastaugh, I prefer standing room, although I'm a terrace fan, he's a grass fan.

Thebarton Oval was my favourite but sadly this grand old footy oval is no longer used for Aussie Rules Footy.

Unley Oval might be a little cramped but the atomsphere when a good crowd is in and the Double Blues playing well is electric.

I rate Norwood Oval as the best in SA after Adelaide Oval and Footy Park

cheers

Easty have you actually been to these grounds or are you going by what you have seen on TV.

Noalunga might be close to home for you but the other 1.2 million people who live in Adelaide its miles away. Its always cold and windy and the ground is way too big, you never have any chance of seeing what is happening on the field because you always so far from the action.

Elizabeth oval, is the same as Noarlunga but its not as cold or windy.

Woodville Oval, again another big ground. Theres not much standing room on the outer wing to watch the game and your right the stand is ordinary as a total package not a good ground to view football. The Eagles should move back to Thebarton.

Richmond Oval is similar to Woodville in size but it is surrounded by concrete. Its a very hard place to find and when you get there, there is usually only one gate open to enter from. It is a better viewing ground than Woodville though.

Unley Oval, Has a very small playing field and it only holds 5,000 people so your always crammed in. Its ok to watch footy there because your close to the action but it seems more like a park than a footy ground.

Prospect Oval, Is actually one of the better size grounds it is all concrete and they have tree's growing on the outer wing which sometimes blocks your view of the game. Apart from that its a good ground to watch footy.

Glenelg Oval, Probably after Noarlunga its the last ground you would want to be on a cold wet winters day. Those grass mounds turn into mud and the wind does bring hard rain off the ocean. Just like Unley it has a small playing field but again you are close to the action.

Norwood Oval, apart from Adelaide Oval its the next best looking ground in the SANFL. Just like Glenelg and Unley it has a small playing field. Its also all concrete but has a nice old grand stand behind the goals.Just like Woodville there is not much standing room on the outer wing.

Alberton Oval, I'm probably a bit bias being a Port supporter but just like prospect oval it has a good size playing field but unlike Easty stated it isn't all concrete it does have a bowling green in one pocket and some practice cricket wickets as well next to the bowling green. Its probably the best viewing ground in the SANFL as you never feel far from the action and you never fill crammed in like some of the smaller grounds and it does have one the states oldest & best looking grand stands as well.

Top 3 Alberton, Norwood, Prospect

Worst3 Noarlunga, Elizabeth, Woodville

the 3 you rate as worst are good ! I suppose I can understand Noarlunga, as the only reason I rated it highly was because it isnt far from me but woodville is a good ground, there is enough grass there and the outer is fairly big especially behind one of the goals there is grass everyhwere, Glenelg is one of the best , the outer is good , there is grass everywhere and the stands arent bad, plus it isnt far to get too. alberton is concrete everwhere and it takes longer to get there

Isn't there a flat concrete terrace, without backing or cover, along much of the outer at Woodville, with grass standing room on each side?

That suited me fine when I was there, though it got a bit lonely for the six or seven of us, because the crowd was pretty small, and most were on the other side.

I remember the surface of the ground itself being a bit muddy.

Easty the reason I rated those 3 as my worst is mainly because of the size of then. You just seem too far from the action and sometimes you feel like you not even at the footy. These grounds lack any sort of atmosphere.

well it seems easty, that you hate port hence you hate alberton!!

here is my list...ill take into consideration, grass condition, outer conditions, hospitality etc.

Nourlunga - a dump. Grandstand holds about 60 people. Is usually on average about 5 degrees there and pissing with rain. Ground has no drainage...plus is on a hill, so the oval slants. Outer when wet turns to mud. Scoreboard - other grounds get updated every few mins. which is good. Food - useless
Plus the fact its in the middle of nowhere doest help!
score - 2/10

Prospect - good oval, gppd grandstand, good condition of the oval, fair outer...i like concrete terraces...food availabiliity is good.
score - 7/10

Alberton - oval condition is top, drainage is good, lots of space around the ground, grat old grandstand, food availabilty is top notch, terraces are good.
score - 9/10

Woodville - Grandstand is great, food availability is disgraceful! usually, pies last about 15 minutes. Ground condition is great, grass or concrete...i like it.
score - 9/10

Richmond - have no idea how to get there, always seem to get lost, and parking is shocking. Food is good...ground condition is ok. Lots of concrete terraces, but a bit of grass from memory as well in the outer behind the concrete - similar to adelaide oval.
score - 6/10

Norwood - Ground condition is shithouse, grandstands are great, food is great, outer is ok, drainage is the worst ive seeen on a football ground
score - 4/10

Unley - seeing as it isnt a real oval...u cant really judge...very tightly packed, no room to move
3/10

Elizabeth - the less said the better...middle of nowhere, ground condition is shit, plenty of grass tho...crowd is too violent
score 1/10

Glenelg - ground condition is bad, drainage...ground turns to mud, can get cold and wet there, outer is dismal, theg rass turns to mud...food is average
3/10

My best three : Alberton, Woodville, Prospect
Worst three: Nourlunga, Elizabeth, Parade

noarlunga isnt in the middle of nowhere, unless you are a person who lives in the suburbs YUCK ! I wouldnt live near the suburbs for anything, give me the country anyday !

Sorry Eastie, but Noarlunga is a hell hole. Apart from all the deficiencies mentioned before, it's fun to stand in front of the members 'stand' because the people in the first couple of rows are sitting so low, they can't see the game.
Glenelg and Norwood ovals always run out of beer, so their crap!!
Alberton has plenty of beer and it's cheaper than the above two ovals.
Unley makes me mad because the ground is full of BMW drivers with their cut lunches and bottled water.
I'll leave the others alone because it's been a while since I've been to them.

I rather like Adelaide Oval as a venue for watching footy. The place has real atmosphere and charm. Plus it's the only oval which serves Stout (Old Southwark). Nothing beats standing in front of the grandstand with a Stout in hand, watching a night match. Excellent feeling when you get several thousand people there.

As for the suburban ovals, well I follow Glenelg, so the Bay Oval has a special charm for me... admittedly the playing surface is awful, always muddy in the winter. However standing shoulder-to-shoulder on the hill in front of Snout's Bar with other Bays fans is simply the best atmosphere.

However, from a spectator's point of view, I really like Norwood Oval the best. I don't think much of the actual playing ground - closer to a rectangle than an Oval - but the stands curving around the southern goals are really close to the boundary, and give the place a good "coliseum" feel - even right at the back of the stand you feel really close to the action, sandwiched in with loads of other supporters so the atmosphere is great. The Coopers' Hill has loads of character too.

Don't write off Noarlunga Oval either. I agree with a lot of the gripes people have with it, but it does have its good points. The playing surface is probably the best in SA outside of Footy Park. While the spectator facilities are very sparse, I find that most people tend to gather on the hill just to the North of the Grandstand - and the atmosphere here is pretty good. Glenelg usually gets a reasonable crowd of people down there, with a fair balance of supporters from either team - always good for the atmosphere.

See you down the Bay

Uncle Steve

hmmm.....

Elizabeth Oval is in no way the worst ground in the SANFL; plenty of room to park, always can get a beer or anything else without a huge line up, best clubrooms in the league without a doubt (if you haven't seen the new ones yet wait for next season when you come to Elizabeth, they are sensational), all the toilets have a roof (take note North Adelaide) and aren't the dirtiest cesspits ever (Alberton!!) As for the travel....think what Centrals fans have to do most weeks.

Regarding the crowd violence, no way.....the only real trouble you'll have with Centrals fans is at away grounds, particularly Norwood. And those guys who go end to end are NOT the trouble makers, in fact several of them are club officials. BTW good idea having Centrals and Norwood on the first Friday night of the season!! Are the SANFL on drugs?

I know we aren't popular with the other teams but be serious.....Elizabeth is a fine SANFL ground. Personally Norwood is my fave away ground because whenever we play Norwood the atmosphere is brilliant. Fair play to Glenelg Oval as well. I dislike Woodville, but only because it's next to impossible to get a decent park and it's way too small.

Noarlunga isn't in the country either...outer metropolitan, maybe...

It's not THAT far from everything for gods sake... some of you were making it sound like bloody Victor Harbor!

yeah, our ground ratings seem to be low because we have to audacity not to be inner suburban clubs, making it inconvenient for other fans. Well Sorrrrrrrrry........

what gives you the right to judge grounds on what they look like??? Unley maybe smaller but it shits all over such as Norwood oval which is an absolute shocker.

Blues_girl, get a life you moron. Who in the hell do you think you are to come here and abuse everyone?. Why don't you PO, we don't need your crap around here.

Mate, you couldnt afford to live within 50km of a city. Exposing yourself for 20 cent pieces isnt a good way to make a living.

Top 3:

Adelaide: Need I say anymore. The best place to watch a game. I wish we still had a couple of home games there. Loses a point for serving mid-strength beer.

Unley: Biased I know, but my reasons are the same that some people bag it for. The tightness of the oval makes for a better atmosphere than a massive area with 2000 people spread out. Its a dman nice Oval these days. Not like the slush heap it used to be before we left.

Woodville: Nice place to watch footy game.

Honourable Mention:

Prospect: We seem to win a lot there lately and the beer is always cold.

Worst 3:

Noarlunga: Windswept. Why was it built on top of a hill? I thought Bice Oval was the way to go. Also you need a compass and a packed lunch to get there.

Alberton: If you win, they wanna fight. If you lose, they wanna fight. Shame. The Oval itself is top notch with all the AFL funds coming in. Loses several million points for being a zoo in the outer.

Elizabeth: See the last points for Noarlunga and Alberton.

Maybe for you but some of us are lucky that we dont have to live near a city or suburban area, I couldnt think of anything worse than to not live in the country with the fresh air etc.

Noarlunga is in the suburbs you dickhead. For someone who supposedly lives near there, you have no idea whatsoever.
