Anyone come across a scam where people ring businesses telling them they have agreed to take out an ad in a magazine - usually for some supposedly worthy cause, eg RSL, emergency services, drug abuse prevention??
I have agreed to 3 or 4 over the years but, particularly this year, have had several people ringing telling me I have agreed to others [which I have not]. The fee is usally around $300 each. And usually they say I had agreed to do it 4 months or so earlier.
My theory is they try their luck with random businesses and hope to find absent minded people [like me] who might get confused about what they have or haven't agreed to.
I think I heard someone on talkback who had come across the same scam.
