The Blues currently have 4 NSW scholarship players.

  1. Josh Feneroli - ???
  2. Jake Pianta - KPP
  3. Blake Bray - KPP
  4. Matthew Lodge - KPP
Bray and Lodge were signed this year and are only 15.
Bray, a 190cm key position player, is a Year 10 student at Picton High School, currently playing senior football for the Western Suburbs Magpies in the Sydney AFL
Bray this week played representative football in the NSW Under 16 championships and impressed recruiters in a variety of roles including Full Back, Centre Half Back and Centre Half Forward.

Pianta signed in 2007 as a 15 year old.
Jake is 187cm and 69 kg centre half forward who played in the NSW/ ACT Rams successful V-Line series earlier this year.

Poor camera angle as Stevo is listed at 182......high heeled studs?:D

Feneroli was signed in 2006.
AFAIK he played for NSW this year in the champs but may have been under aged.

Anyone have any further info on ANY of these guys.

Particularly Fenaroli who may well be recuited by us next year with our last pick, who some of you may have seen in the U18's carnaval this year. Size? Position? Quality?

when can we sign these guys up??
like the look of Pianta saw the carlton wwebsite that he got a scolarship:thumbsu:

Well that's sort of what I am asking too.

I think Fenaroli played his first year of U18's this year, meaning we could sign him up with our last pick next year in the ND.

I think Pianta would be the following year.

Was more wondering if anyone might have seen Fenaroli in the champs this year, and flag him as one to watch for the guys next season.:thumbsu:

I remember watching Feneroli at the U18 Champs earlier this year.
IIRC, he's a tough nuggety back pocket player with a very solid body that keeps a close check on his opponent before thinking about providing run out of the backline.
Skills seemed average but it was a while ago so I could be wrong.
If, as you say, he is eligible to be selected next year we have a choice - either select him with our final selecton in the ND, or select him in the rookie draft. If we do decide to select him, it will be interesting to see which path we choose.

Bray and Lodge appear to be more likely than the other 2 - well, according to people in the know anyway. I've only seen Feneroli play during the champs, and didn't overly impress.

Have to agree on Feneroli ,only saw him in 1 game but he looked ordinary.

Looked like a man-child the kind who was 3 years ahead of the kids body wise which compensated for his lack of ability.

The drafting rules suggest its a "mandatory" last pick in that draft for the club.
Does that mean they MUST be drafted, or does it mean IF you draft them it MUST be with your last pick?

I.e. If they are no good do we have any obligation to take them........surely not?

Can't you also get them in the rookie draft? I think that is what Collingwood is doing with their schollarship player this year.

Fenaroli is hard at it, but isn't up to AFL scratch unfortunately. I wouldn't hold my breath with this one.

Them holding a scholarship doesn't automatically mean that we need to draft them.

We can also choose in which draft we want to draft them - either the National Draft, or the Rookie Draft. For example, Taylor Walker (Adelaide), Craig Bird (Sydney) were all scholarship holders taken in the National Draft, and Scott Reed (Collingwood) has recently agreed to be taken in the upcoming Rookie Draft.

Cheers J, and thanks for the responses guys.

For those getting to the U18's carnival next year it might be of interest to note these guys in particular.:thumbsu:
