Schwab commits for a further term
THE MELBOURNE Board met today, following which they confirmed that CEO Cameron Schwab’s employment agreement would be extended for a further three years.

Melbourne President Don McLardy said, “Cam is a highly experienced CEO, whose work and leadership over the last 12 months in particular has been outstanding as the Club has faced some extremely challenging and highly public issues.

“In his time at the Club since 2008, Cameron has been at the forefront of a significant growth period, taking operating revenue from $26 million to $38 million. The Club has recorded three consecutive profits during this time, as well eradicating a debt of $5 million and establishing a net asset position of $6 million.

“Cameron has also overseen the signing of a 30 year deal with the City of Casey, and established outstanding training facilities at AAMI Park and Casey Fields as well as the successful merger with the Bentleigh Club. Closer to home, Cameron’s contribution has been integral to the Club’s realignment with the MCC as an official sporting section.

“At the end of Season 2011, Cameron also oversaw the full restructure of the Club's football department.”

Well, I'm sure there'll be some pissed off...but I like it.

Yep, despite all the alleged issues with meddling in the Footy Department etc etc, he has done a great job in many areas during his time at the club. Approve.

Was the 2nd biggest player in getting Clark so I'm not furious with it, add the fact the club is in the best position it has been off field in years says he is Doing some good things.

I think consistency in this sort of area is key to helping us with consistency on the field, and so it's good to see Schwab on board for another three years.

I'm happy to trust the club's judgement on this one - I especially trust McLardy, as since he has taken over from Jim I think he's done a very good job.

I'll be honest, there's something about him that just gets to me. The borrowing money thing, the trumpeter and flag ceremony, the 186 stuff. It's unfair, and to be honest I'm in no position to judge if he should get another contract or not. I trust the club as they are in an educated position to make decisions like these so hopefully it works out.

Actually ran into him at the footy yesterday. Had to head down to the bottom level to grab a beer (bloody interstate games) and as I got the escalator back up he got on right behind me as he headed back up to the Legends.

Apparently, in 30 years of being involved in footy, he's never had a beer at the game.....

That alone should be enough to revoke his contract!

I'm completely indifferent to this decision. As long as the club isn't being run into the ground, I'm not too fussed about the CEO.

If we are making money and he isn't running the club into the ground then I can't see any reason why he shouldn't have got his new contract.
And good to see we have managed to lock Opel in for 2013, hopefully the rest of our sponsors do the same and we can start the season without the added pressure of looking for sponsors.

At least the flag ceremony got the boot very quickly when they realised that not even the people who like the trumpeteer (why?!) were into it.

So I had a quick read of Jim's book and his views on Cam, basically he said he was worried that Cam was doing things unilaterally without the support of the board, and that Jim was all set to let him go pre-186. I think this is all pretty common knowledge but Jim said that Cam was going to get an extension provided that he took on board some criticism of his 'lone wolf' style modus operandi. For all we know Cam has taken this on board, but I'm guessing it's something that the club will be monitoring.

More than happy for CS to stay on. He's proved himself an excellent administrator, if at times overzelous about the football side of things. As we know, that came to a head on 186, and from all appearances (to me, at least) he's taken criticism on board and been far more aware of his role in the business of the club and left the footy stuff to Neeld/Craig. I reckon the professionalism of those two especially has transformed the FD and puts us in good stead going forward - and CS oversaw the restructuring of the FD to where it is now (not to mention the finances that funds it).
Still stuck with the mortifying trumpeter and busy logo (MFC monogram should be all that's needed) but that's not grave. Stability will be helpful - now to the onfield work. Still an optimist for next year :thumbsu:

Jim drove the debt demolition. 12 mill increase in revenue = more members signing up, more AFL handouts and the Bentleigh club acquisition which was an initiative of the old board.

AAMI = previous board,as with Bentleigh.

That, Casey, and the MCC alignment, are it then? Cue blazers mentions.

This is the worse result for Melbourne, his CEO play is to ask for money. Anyone could have got the sposors he did (I think Eddie has more than you know).

Melbourne has become the hand out king asking memeber for money ay every corner. If it wasn't for some major backers we would be in big trouble.

We missed a opportunity to go after someone who has been part of success (CS has only been a part of failure at every club he has been at)

CC must be due for a new contract as well..

Boys club still very poor.

Business 101

CS has only been a part of failure at every club he has been at

In the last 12 months alone he has brought Neil Craig and Dave Misson to a recognised train-wreck of a club, had the major sponsor absolutely disgrace himself, and found not one but two major sponsors to replace him. Both major sponsors have re-signed for the future.

Not seeing any failure on his part there.

People in positions of power always receive criticism. From where I'm sitting, the business-side of Melbourne is moving along nicely.
