A couple of good posts in the Pendlebury thread on the main board got me thinking. This is one of the closest matchups in quality you could find. Many people have these two as #2 and #3. So in your opinion who is the better player? If you could give your reasons too that would be great.

I expect Pendles to win this poll because he hits the scoreboard more often but Sammy is so good!

2 amazing players man. Like I said you couldn't get a closer two in terms of quality for mine.

Sam Mitchell is just as good at disposing the ball but for me Pendlebury makes everyone around him look like slow motion, I love watching Collingwood games purely to watch him go about it. His 2 goals in the last quarter were great as well, one on the left, one on the right.

For some reason people really underrate Mitchell's effectiveness in clearances, if anything he's slightly better than Pendlebury imo. He has also carried Hawthorn as their clear best midfielder for some time now. Pendlebury is a better goalkicker and is also a better defensive player; he's also a more complete midfielder than Mitchell in that he plays inside and out.

I voted Mitchell based on who has been better over the last 12 months though I'd probably vote the other way round if it was a case of Pendelbury's best v Mitchell's best.

Good poll imo.

Good poll. Tough to split.

Gonna go Pendles, but would be a VERY short list of players better than Mitchell.

Pendlebury easily for me. Says more about him than Mitchell though, who is obviously an excellent player.

Actually can't split.
Right now Pendlebury is probably better but there's very few in the league who can top Mitchell when he's in form. He's often forgotten in discussions with Jobe, Ablett, etc. and unfairly too.

Both are great players but I'd probably prefer Pendlebury at Richmond as he seems to have more scoreboard impact

normally my anti Collingwood bias would take over but sometimes you just have to acknowledge a gun from the opposition.

Mitchell is better than most but Pendelbury is an A grader

Really balanced and thought out post very rare on BF.
Pendlebury has gone up another gear in the last 8 weeks and gone past Mitchell.

It's good to see Pies fans rate Mitchell quite highly as I've never thought he received the kudos he deserved.

He definitely doesn't. I've seen so many times people naming the top 5 mids in the comp and Mitchell is often left out. Which is wrong. I actually can't believe some people have the audacity to put Dangerfield, (whom has never had a complete season,) over Mitchell who has been a gun for years.

FMD not me; Mitchell IMO is a prime example of herd mentality - no one else (or the media) thinks he's elite, so he musn't be.

Dangerfield is the prime example of the opposite. Everyone says he's awesome so he must be.

Mitchell is awesome; he's been one of the best mids of the last ten years or so.

Very hard to split. Mitchell maybe by a whisker as he has more elite seasons on the board. Agree Mitchell has always been undervalued. I think at Collingwood and Hawthorn Pendles and Hodge are footballers we love because of the way they play and so get talked up a bit more. At the same time Mitchell and Swan are each clubs premier midfielder of the last 5+ seasons but are effective rather than classic so don't get the kudos they deserve

Mitchell has longevity over Pendles, but I believe that Pendles best footy is better. I'd probably take Pendles because I think by careers end he will be the better player of the two.

I rate Pendles the second best player of the league.
