Yes and Barassi took the credit for a 'Master move'. A good coach with great publicist instincts to talk up good to great and fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time.No maybes about that. McKenna was on fire in the GF and kicked 40% of our goals that season. Him getting concussed in the 2nd q was the difference. He had 5 goals to that point
We brought in Matthews to "Learn and take over from Rose".Not sure you can describe Rose to Matthews as ruthless. Rose rang Matthews after the 3rd round in 1986 and told him it was time for Matthews to take over. Rose was the architect of that change.
Malthouse was a great appointment.
Buckley was a good coach whose time was up, he knew it and accepted it. Not a ruthless decision. Fly had a great 1st season and things look promising but we are potentially a few seasons off knowing if it has worked.
We brought in Matthews to "Learn and take over from Rose".
That was a ruthless decision to undermine Rose and within 3 weeks the writing was on the wall and Rose knew it.
The Ruthless decision was hiring LM as the assistant coach whilst Rose was still there!

I dont think Rose was undermined. He came back to coaching out of duty when the club was in great trouble. Cahill had walked after 2 seasons and the "New Magpies" were taking us to the brink financially. We brought in Matthews to "Learn and take over from Rose".

I think we need Leigh at that moment. The club was in a mess. Leigh is a winner. We had always watched Carlton and the Tigers being ruthless. We had to get with the times.Happy to have varying views on the situation, I view the hiring of Leigh Matthews, first as an assistant only moments removed from his playing days, and then as the head coach, as a ruthless decision.
We can debate the version of events the led up to it just like in 40 years time it'll be "Buckley had his 10 seasons and it came to its natural, mutual conclusion therefore it wasn't a ruthless decision"
Where as I read it as we ruthlessly sacked Buckley mid season to conduct a proper process to find a replacement who was qualified and aligned to exactly to what we were after, a ruthless proven winner.
Tigers ruthlessly sacked a large number of coaches, before compassionately extending the underperforming Hardwick...Happy to have varying views on the situation, I view the hiring of Leigh Matthews, first as an assistant only moments removed from his playing days, and then as the head coach, as a ruthless decision.

I think you're right Ronnie, I reckon he's gone past them all.O Captain!, My Captain….
He should be allowed to decide when and how he finishes.
For now let’s enjoy the Greatest Pie of them all….For as long as we can.

A premiershipIt would take something huge to stop Pendles getting to 400. I reckon it's a given.
His never had pace which is one of the reasons the game catches up with players, the other is the physicality but because he rarely get's tackled his avoided this also. assuming he stays injury free he can easily go for another 2 years so to 2025 season.400 firmly in sight. His lack of decline is almost unnerving
I also think in regards to your point on physicality, his preparation is 2nd to noneHis never had pace which is one of the reasons the game catches up with players, the other is the physicality but because he rarely get's tackled his avoided this also. assuming he stays injury free he can easily go for another 2 years so to 2025 season.
