I can understand it from his perspective but it’s a little sad that Pendles has already said that he’d go to another club to learn the ropes of coaching.

Hopefully it’s all to our benefit long term and he coaches the club post Fly in 5 years or so if he proves/confirms that he’s good enough for it. How amazing would that be for him to continue to write his Collingwood legacy.
It would be very strange to see him wearing another club's colors. But if he thinks that is the best thing for him to do to set himself up to be a successful coach, that's what he will do. he has always been single minded in his approach to be the best. We have to learn to separate the player from the coach, which is something a lot of us struggled with when Bucks was coach.

Maybe it’s my imagination but Pendles handballs in recent games seem to have have been as long as kicks. And generally accurate despite the distance.

He’s still improving! ( or at least adjusting his game as he slows down further, always quicker to get a handball away before being tackled rather than a kick)

He’s been great at getting the ball outside the in tight clutter by hand. His vision is still absurd!

I'd be okay if Pendles was an assistant under Dimma (as an example) for a couple of years before taking over from Fly when he's ready to hand over the reigns.

I reckon Pendles footy IQ is off the charts but he’ll need to open up a bit emotionally to be a great senior coach. I love the bloke more than anyone so that’s just my opinion
I think this is criticism has a bit less merit these days. He obviously has super high standards, but he seems to be a much more relaxed individual these days. Has more balance, seems to ride the emotional highs of the individual games more. I think he has developed a lot on this front under Fly, and renouncing the captaincy

Yeah I’m knit picking I think. The boys reckon he’s a dry funny bastard in private so I’m sure he’ll bring a group together. Pendles and Nick coach/captain lifting the 2031-2033 cups will be epic. 😍

Anybody else noticing the evolution of Pendleburys game?

Against giants - 8 kicks 11 handballs
Against port (sub) 3 kicks 5 handballs

Against the dogs - 5 kicks 21 handballs
Against the blues - 8 kicks 21 handballs

More so the last two games - he seems to be the middle man with his awareness and being able to use his hands and footy IQ which allows the runners to come through and break the game open… it’s something I’ve noticed… keen to see how this plays out!

I think we lead the comp in the most handballs. We're much better at handballing than kicking too 😉

I reckon he’s better in that regard than he used to be. Seems to have come out of his shell more with age.
He was the first to go to Shoota and the rest of the boys all followed.

He’s so well respected, I think that could bridge the gap to his slight social awkwardness.

Similar to Buckley in that regard.
I think what didn’t work with Buckley as a coach, was his high standards he set with himself as a player, he also set with others that others could not achieve.

He’s also had a reputation for arrogance (Figjam nickname) and maybe just rubs some people the wrong way.

Not so of Pendlebury. He receives a lot more respect as a whole than Buckley

What didn’t work with Buckley as coach was Dom Sheed. Single incidents change perceptions massively.

No Darcy Moore that day either. Lyndon Dunn who had been serviceable up until his knee injury was also unavailable. I think Howe only just made it, as he too was battling an injury. Buckley did an outstanding job under the circumstances.

Goldy underdone after a miracle return from an ACL. Langdon presumably was carrying something too that might have restricted him given he retired only a year or two later. Reid was also available for selection iirc and playing well as a forward in the VFL but his injury history made it too much of a risk.
