This popped up on my newsfeed on Facebook and apparently Kevin Bartlett (cough) discussed it on SEN today - has anyone heard or can confirm this is true??

"Scott Selwood has told West Coast he would like to join his Brother Joel Selwood at Geelong"

Would be a great pickup for us a natural run with/tagger which we have clearly missed this year - what would we have to give up tho??

Would be an awesome get, has been floated here and on the main board. On the balance on power I would suggest the deal would be in WC's favour big time... but who knows.

Wow,first I've heard of it, but would love him to come to Geelong.

He'd fit beautifully into our side :thumbsu:

(It is silly season in regard to trade rumors however, so I'll try not to get too excited)

As he is still under contract, the Eagles would probably bend us over can't see it happening.

Would love him at the club just the same!

Yes, he'd be fantastic to have, but be prepared to give a very good player or two (or one and an early draft pick) back in return. No pressure on West Coast, so we'd have to bowl them over with an offer. I suspect that the price would be too high and that we should revisit this in two years.

Contracted to the end of 2015 I believe, and our 2012 B&F.

I imagine the price would be too high for a deal to get done.
We'll on-trade Heath Shaw/Taylor Adams* (I know we can't do that btw) and our first rounder.

*Or whoever is the next player attached to us this silly season.

contracted lol :p

If a player wants out, there's very little that can be done about it. Mitch Brown is contracted till the end of 2014 but you watch him ask to be traded and away he goes.

The club can tell a player to get stuffed if he's under contract and requests a trade. Or they can accommodate his wish and put his name up and then tell another club to get stuffed if they feel like they're getting low-balled. If the player is under contract, the club that he is contracted to holds all the cards.

If I was West Coast I'd want Duncan, Motlop or Christensen.

If I was Geelong I'd say 'yeah, nah'.
In my current black mood I can actually see the first name on your list being entertained if there is anything in the rumour.

And if it did happen, catgal 006 will be required to for suicide watch.

Selwood, super player but being under contract I just can't see how we can get it done without losing a decent kid from the bracket we can least afford to lose from.

I think he would be a great get and fits our age profile going forward better then Shaw but it would cost us at least a first round pick( which I would give) and maybe a Varcoe or Schroder and a swap of 2nd rounders.

There is also the possibility that all of a sudden, whichever midfielder we have to give up for S.Selwood suddenly steps up a level, being able to rove to the best ruck combination in the game. I don't mean to be that guy that talks up all our players and talks down the players from every other team, but it's certainly possible.

in theory, we trade duncan for selwood. we lose an outside player with a great kick, and gain an insider or tagger. we need to bring a tagger into the team, that was obvious in our loss to the hawks. but we do also need outside players who can deliver well to the forward line.

if we did this trade, who fills the void left by duncan? we have stokes and motlop who already perform this task to a degree, but tend to get it more forward of centre, where duncan is often receiving across half back and delivering to half forward...

not saying i support it, just thinking out loud. do any of our kids come in and fill duncans role? ghs is an inside player, schroder is an insider, what of sheringham, mccartney, cowan etc. can any of them replace duncan?

As a Geelong supporter that is exactly what you are supposed to do.

Especially come trade time. ;)

I reckon Duncan is one of the more replaceable guys on our list. Don't get me wrong - I reckon he's a gun and don't want him to go - but Murdoch, Smedts, Thurlow, Cowan, Bews, Schroder, Stringer and Sheringham are all to varying degrees capable of filling a similar role.

but no way would I trade Duncan for Selwood, as good as Scott is, Mitch is going to be elite in the coming years and he has much more assets to his game than Scott (superior kick and mark).

I would generally prefer to back in our existing players, but Duncan for Selwood would definitely interest me.

Selwood is only a year older than Duncan but a better player at the moment. He was B&F in a side that finished higher than we did last year, which is well beyond what Duncan has ever been able to do. And I think we have more Mitch Duncan types already on the list than we do Scott Selwood types.

And I wonder whether there is any "1+1=3" in having Joel and Scott in the same side? I seem to recall Gazza really breaking out about the time Nathan Ablett turned up at the club ...

It's the end of the line for the Cats for this season. Stay tuned. You will hear a lot of things for the first time.

I imagine therefore WCE would demand someone like Duncan. I wouldn't want to lose Duncan, just as I'm sure WCE wouldn't want to lose Scooter
