Did anyone hear the rumour today, if Hird quits tonight or tomorrow, the AFL will not remove premiership points this season?

Heard that one.

And yet if you ask #teambombers they'd rather lose points and picks if it means Hird stays.

The AFL should leave the points and take draft picks (4 years) away from them. They won't win it this year anyway. Their mind is warped. Winning a premiership is a long way off.

Some of the fans are so deluded. It's like Hird is the leader of a cult or something. It boggles the mind.

With regards to their punishment, who knows what the AFL will do. I really have no trust in them to apply a fair, but heavy punishment. Will they wilt at Essendon's legal pressure? Will they come down harder because of the challenge from the lawyers?

How unfair will it be to St Kilda Amard Saad if he gets suspended and the Essendon players are not.

Giving any AFL club a fine is a joke (see Melbourne and the AFL paying it) so draft pics must get stripped from them and any guilty player suspended for any period of time.

Opps - not really about Scott Thompson. Sorry mods, thought I was in a different thread.

i don't understand that. he's clearly been restricted for a couple of months and was getting worse and worse until his low point 3-4 weeks ago. what is it that has changed between him being selected for the last game and being selected for this game. if he was fit enough and in form enough to be selected against the roos, then he might as well play against the dogs. there was no drastic change in his output this week.

Because of his age and the fact he is struggling with some sort of injury, his kicking skills are average bordering on deplorable, I just think he is desperate for a rest. My main observation is that he was subbed when the match was in the balance this week and I feel we are flogging a dead horse if he cant run out matches. Even if its just a week against the dogs and he comes back for the final two games.

yeh mate, i agree. but none of that has changed over the last 4-5 weeks. he's been deplorable, but even worse our selection committee has continued to select him regardless of his injury issues.

Scott Thompson is our most experienced player and deeply respected at the club. If he says he can play he plays. However you only get so many of those cards to play before the coach will confiscate them. I suspect he has burnt the coach enough to say you need a rest. You don't rest your best midfielder easily (most brownlow votes by a crow ever last season don't forget).

and there's the problem with the selection committee. thommo our most experienced player. certainly that is correct now, and he can apparently play 2-3 months of crap football and maintain his spot. if experience is the major factor then graham johncock was more experienced (and more at afc) than scott Thompson at the beginning of the year, but he wasn't afforded 2 months of shit form combined with guaranteed afl selection.

no doubt that thommo is deeply respected, but that doesn't make him immune from being part of the discussion about who are the most in form 22 players to put on the park for this game. you're right, thommo has burnt the coach, or the coach has burnt thommo. but just because you're very slow in picking it up doesn't imply that i don't agree that he is a champion of our club and wish to diminish his value over his time at the club. i'm just saying that he should have been rested weeks ago and the selection panel are quite likely incompetent. i'm also saying that you have been incredibly slow in coming to this conclusion. if i didn't know better, i'd suggest you are pre-empting the selectors actions this week so you can say that you told us so. i hope he plays, so you can re-jig your opinion to match that of the afc selection group. and why not, they are a beacon of light, never make a blue.

Why didnt we get a choice, it would have been easy.

Look, if he's not getting a scalpel to the groin by wednesday, we have some serious issues to deal with. Bloke needs to get some love, so he can come back, win a brownlow and a male modelling competition next year.

Give the gunshow a chance, time for a break.

That gets bandied around a lot without much evidence. His DE over the last couple of years is no different to any of the other inside mids going around. Sure, he is prone to the odd howler turnover, but so is someone like Danger. This is a guy who was a Brownlow favourite for a large part of last season and won an AA gig, he was/is an out an out elite A grade mid, and has been for at least 2 seasons (maybe 3).

I remember taylor_walker_13 always had something against him, even when he was dominating last year. And the only reason for it was that turnover in the 2007 elim final.

Dangers turnovers are normally 50m away after hes just booted the Footy.
Thompsons are 5m after hes missed a handball or sold his team mate into a world of hurt

To be fair Dangers turnovers are about 70M away from where he got the ball, run 20 kick 50. Thommos turnovers are usually 30m away. Stand still - short kick.

This is where Laird is so impressive, in heavy traffic he doesn't panic and normally finds someone. Unreal for someone with little experience.

laird is composed but still is a limited kick - goes high and slow. i think Laird is a role player - doughty was for ten years not a terrible thing. think brown will pass him easily i think he is really improving over last few weeks
