Congratulations Welshy.
363 goals in 205 games, great mark, beautiful kick, handy forward when we didn't have many. :thumbsu:

I wonder if this really means the Dogs are seriously considering Barry Hall now. Seems like a very high risk for the sort of money he'd be demanding, but it's obvious they need a gorilla forward to progress further.

Meh. Was supremely talented and it seemed he could have been so much better if he had ever really applied himself, rather than just getting by from contract to contract. Kicked a lot of junk goals and went missing whenever it really mattered. I think we were immediately better off without him, and I think the Bulldogs might have realised we had good reason not to offer him that two year contract he ended up leaving us (without compesation) for.

When you see a player like Rob Shirley eke out a 150 game career despite their obvious natural limitations, it's a bit sickening to see such a gifted player cruise through theirs.

Quote of the week IMO!! :thumbsu:

Glad to see the back of him and also that his 2 years with the bulldogs have meant nothing to either party.

Could have been so much better than he was - but he failed to deliver when it mattered.

Good player, sad to see him retire.

Interesting Scott Welsh, Kane Johnson and Tyson Stenglein all former crows, retiring this season.

Did ok at the bulldogs reinvented himself a little bit further up the ground, Tyson stenglein also retried at the end of the season he seemed to go a little before his time if he survives the cut rob shirley might end up out lasting him.

Seems a bit macabre to reflect on his failings on the eve of his retirement. Congrats on a good career Welshy, pity about how he ended up parting ways with the Crows but I guess that's how it happens.

Obscure reference much Stab :p had to look that one up :)

That article didn't even bother to mention his time at the Roos, which included a little achievement called a Premiership. Anyway, good luck to Scotty. He was one of my favourites when he was at the Crows, so hopefully he succeeds in what he chooses to do now.

My fiance is friends with his girlfriend Nicky through facebook (they went to school together), she had been boasting for months about how she couldnt wait to get back to Adelaide so I think the decision to retire at the end of this year was made quite a while ago. I think she is already back in Adelaide and I would assume that Welshy, once things are finalised, wont be too far behind. I just hope that he doesnt think he will be coming back to live of being a former crow considering how he left.

Spot on, was never ever a game winner, could have been but never was, fortunate to play in the North Melbourne Premiership side of 1999, the Bulldogs needed him to stand tall against St Kilda and like always never did, junk time king when the pressure was off.

I agree, but I just think walking out on the club disallows you from being able to ride the AFC gravy train post retirement.
Mate, you are the master of bringing up things that haven't happened yet, and talking about them as though they have. :)

Shrug, Scotty is a past player of the club and I'm sure he will be included, and is entitled to be included, in any past player activities. He doesn't strike me as a media star anyway and that's the only "gravy train" in town.

For me, he was one of my favourite players despite his flaws and I wish him well in retirement. I'll shake his hand if we ever meet.

Meh, did a few nice things throughout his footy career, but never really starred like I thought he could. Anyway played 200 games and kicked nearly 400 goals, not a bad achievement, good luck in the future Welshy.

C'mon you cannot be serious! It mean nothing to Welsh?! He maximized his earning potential for a young family. I am sure that it worked out well for him.

Good luck to him. He had his flaws but you cannot be as bad a player as people make him out to be and still play 200+ AFL games and win some awards along the way. Did he get the most out his talent? Probably not! But even as we stand now he has had a very good career and has been a valuable player for every club he has played for.

Actually he hasnt turned 31 yet, he might still have 4 years left in him ;)

Nah I wish him well also and was a good servant when he was with us, just a shame that he left how he did which tarnished things a bit.

Considering how he left?!

Lets be honest here if anyone is to blame for the way that saga unfolded is the Adelaide FC. They tried to, for a want of a better word, con Welsh into signing a 1 year deal and a verbal commitment for the 2nd year if he fulfills cetain criteria. He was happy with the terms of the deal and the criteria and goals set for him but he wanted that promise in writing. We bulked at it and he rightly went for security at his age.

Anyone who would have accepted those terms set out by the club would be more than few pennies short especially considering what had taken place for the last 2-3 years with players like Hart, Torney, Clarke, etc....

Anyone that blames Welsh for how things ended with the AFC has rocks in their head.

Good! I hate the guy! I enjoyed laughing at the back-stabbing d*** when they showed him on the ground after the Prelim loss. Now I'm glad he's gone so he won't get to a Grand Final before us.
So Good Riddance to him!
(And FYI, I don't hate him for leaving, I hate him for what he said about the club and Craig after he left.)
