Anyone see this tripe?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-01-20/scully-to-soar-in-14-cameron

SEASON 2013 was the year Jeremy Cameron stamped himself as a future superstar of the competition.

Heck, with 60 goals and his first All Australian selection in his keeping before his 21st birthday, he might be so already.

As for which Greater Western Sydney player might follow Cameron into superstar status, how about Tom Scully.

Yep, Tom Scully. The oft-maligned one time No.1 draft pick, who bailed on Melbourne after just two years to cast his lot with the expansion Giants, might be the player in charcoal and orange who sneaks up on the competition in 2014.

Incoming GWS coach Leon Cameron, an assistant to Kevin Sheedy last season, believes that all the hype surrounding Cameron allowed Scully to quietly go about starting to deliver on the potential that made him the most coveted junior footballer in the country less than five years ago.

Such confidence in Scully that the majority of the article is about other players!

:thumbsu: well done Leon! Way to do... something?

I think we can move on from Scully bashing. Yes he lied, yes he was probably the wrong pick and unworthy of the price the Giants paid. Whatever, get over it. He's far from the first high draft pick, with big wraps who failed to live up to all the hype. He should become a good solid player for GWS. Why's that matter to us?

Agree that we did well out of the deal looking back, so can move on. But I question the author's choice of "oft maligned" #1 draft pick. The guy taken the year before him at #1 has copped ten times the scrutiny despite arguably a better career to date.

the post was made not about Scully - but more so how it's titled compared to what's actually written.

Re-read my original post, and you'll understand the point I was getting at.

And what exactly has it got to do with Melbourne?

I'll admit I'm a Scully 'hater'..

But sadly, having watched a bit of his progress last year, and knowing that he was always going to take an extra year or 2 as a skinny, inside mid - I reckon he is almost ready to step up and become elite.

Tom Scully used to play for Melbourne.

For two years 2010 and 2011... Seriously can we please move on, it's getting ridiculous

What sort of Mid do you think he'll be? By that I mean if you were to compare him to another player - who do you think he'll end being most like?

IMO - I don't think he'll be anything special. Granted it's early days, and yes I agree he did more for us in the defection than he would've if he stayed, but with the knee issues, and what he's displayed up until now, I can't see him being a star.

I'd say he could go two ways from here, end up like a Robert Harvey styled midfielder who runs up and down and round and round all day, providing that link of giving off handpasses and short to mid ranged kicks. Or he could end up like his teammate Rhys Palmer, runs round and round and round, but is generally useless.

I think he's going to be a very good link up type. I can see him having a high possession count without directly hurting the opposition with physical presence, penetrative kicking, metres forward, goals etc. For these reasons, I don't think they will use him across half back or as a small forward often. He will be a genuine small mid.

Closest comparison I can think of is perhaps Brent Harvey? Although Harvey was slightly smaller, but more dangerous around goals.

I guess the good thing about the article is that it will allow Toby and Co. to concentrate on their game rather than having the media constantly banging on about the expectations like what's happened with Watts.

The $$ amount is gonna come bite scully on the arse I reckon. So far, I'd be asking for a refund if I were Matthews (or whoever is in charge over there).

I have to re-iterate that this opinion has NOTHING to do with his defection, but due to that fact, I think there's some of us that are paying attention to how he goes.

Does that make sense?

Didn't Scully indirectly get us Hogan! Great trade IMO, just a shame that we did not get the PP that we deserved last year [as icing on the cake for our re-build]!

Why can't we still hate him ? Haven't we always been accused of being a toff club , I say **** him , if we shook everyone's hands who left an let em run through a banner when they played against us it would make footy boring

I hope we boo him until he retires
