We all knew this was going to happen anyway. I don't care if we get a fifth round pick for it, I want us to look after him because off the field he's a gun bloke and he looked after us last trade week.

Find him a good home.

Richmond? They need a good ruck.. but their current caretaker (and a prime candidate for the fulltime job next season) wants youth..

Geelong? Blake is a spud, Mumford is developing and Ottens seems to injure himself a lot.. and is always quite good up forward.

Port? The Lade/Brogan duo is getting on and I wouldn't be surprised to see either of them retire at Season's end. Someone has to fill that void.

Melbourne? Meeson, Jamar and Johnson is the extent of their ruck division.. Seaby would greatly bolster the talent of their timber. He's a forward target if needed too.

Brisbane? Charman is aging, Leuenberger still hasn't developed completely. Gap filler?

Carlton? Would probably lead their ruck department. Kreuzer is still too skinny to do it fulltime. The rest of their ruckmen aren't exactly top-line.

Sydney? Aside from Jolly they don't really have much. Pyke isn't top notch.. but he has time. That other bloke doesn't seem to have much going for him either.

St Kilda/Hawthorn/Collingwood/Adelaide/Freo I just can't see it, Essendon have Laycock and Ryder to back up Hille so therefore he's not needed there.

We should look to upgrade our 3rd or 4th round pick in a Seaby trade at the very least.
Seaby plus our 4th rounder for a 3rd rounder. This'll be acceptable if we choose to take 5 in this draft.
I'll take a 3rd round upgrade if we're only taking 4 though.
A little is better than nothing. Though I do believe that because of GC and WS impact on subsequent drafts, as well as the position he plays, he'll be easier to get something average/decent for him. That's the only leverage we have in bargaining, if someone really needs a ruckman. Otherwise the interested party misses out and he either gets taken by someone else or goes into the draft.

Seaby has to realize that he won't be a number 1 ruckmen in any AFL team.

You stand corrected

What you all need to realise, as well as the man himself, is that he has struggled to get a game at one of the worst three sides in the competition.

I doubt anyone will pick him up, and if they do it will be via the PSD. No one will trade for him.

I doubt anyone will give anything for him. Especially clubs in the bottom 8. They know he is out of contract and wants to leave and that there won't be too many clubs below them on the ladder looking at him. I think they will roll the dice and back their chances of getting him for nothing in the PSD and i don't think they will be too upset about it if they miss out. Nobody was prepared to give anything for him last year, why will this year be any different? He hasn't played any better this year. In fact if anything our bargaining position is worse. This time he can and will leave for nothing. Last year he was under contract and any club interested in him would have had to deal with us.

He has been struggling to get a game for us because we have one of the best ruckman in the competition here. Don't let your hate for Seaby and the Eages get in the way Pav, he does have some value. He consistently out-rucked that hack Warnock at West Perth and you lot got a second round pick for him, so I can't see why he will have zero value.

If only one side wants him and not that desperately, it wouldn't surprise me to see us trade him for whatever we can get, to do the right thing by him. Last year the trade request was very last minute. This year it will be better managed, so there is more chance of something happening. As has been said, he is better than many of the other rucks out there. Also, sides often don't mind trading down places in the draft for players as they find it easier to justify to their fans. So, maybe that is what we are looking at for him considering his value would probably be low.

You spend an inordinate amount of time on our board for someone who hates us.

I wouldn't rule out Collingwood. They have little other than Josh Fraser. Wood hasn't developed as they would have liked, Leigh Brown is a pinch hitter and Chris Bryan is a good honest plodder.

Seab is only 25 isnt he? Hes till quite young and has plenty of years left to offer.

He has always played well when he has had to fill in when Cox was injured for a few games. He just needs to play consistently.

Give Cox the rest of the year off and maximise Seaby's game time. If he does well it will boost his value, if he doesn't we had nothing to lose by trying.

FWIW I actually rate Seabs.

It's not about the strength of the side that he can't make his way into. It's the strength of a team's ruck department he has to contend with.
While West Coast are currently a bottom 3 team, we have one of the AFL best ruck divisions.

I also read on the Port Power board that Matt Primus said they would have to trade for an established ruckmen as their young recruits weren't coming on as quick as they'd hoped. He didn't mention Seaby directly but you'd imagine he would be one on their list. At least if there's a few clubs interested then we might get something for him rather than a club just waiting for us to delist him and pick him up via the PSD.

The question is, what are we likely to get for him and, more particularly, would it be any use to us?

I'm sure a first round selection will not be offered.

If we get a PP this year, there's a chance we wouldn't even use some clubs' second pick and we almost certainly wouldn't use a low third-rounder.

I'm not too sure we'll get anything of substantial benefit to us, even if it would be considered a fair trade. I think the best we could hope for would be Seaby + our third rounder for a high second round pick. I'm not sure that can even be arranged, given most interest seems to be coming from mid-range to top teams.

Anyway, I hope Seaby can find a club where he can get some ground time, because I reckon he's a good player when given the chance.
