after watching the 2007 Prelim final againts Geelong, i forgot how good this kid is, only 23 now, and was with Dale Thomas one of our best players that night, has a huge leap and as we all know is super quick, went to Arizona 8 days earlier with a few other boys, and from all reports his body is in the best shape of his career. I think he can be the X factor this year, and make our forward line even more unpredictable. I rekon his body is now mature enough to stand up, if he can play 20 games he could easily kick 50 goals in a season. I know its all ifs and buts at this stage but he has talent and a huge leap. If he came up it would be a huge bonus, after his career was all but over!

The best I've seen of Rusling is better than the best I've seen of Anthony.

I hold hope that Bucks as forwards coach can get something going with Rusling, Cloke, and perhaps Fraser, along with Medhurst and Dick, and our forward line can be a real threat.

Rusling is pure bonus this year.

I have no expectations for him to do anything apart from hopefully getting through a year uninjured. We have other options up forward this year.

If he can play some good footy in the seniors then our forward line will get a boost however we cannot hold out hope for 2010 on him IMO

Pfft, when was the last time Rusling kicked 7 in a match?

It was a great effort from Jack but Nab Cup does not count. Jack's career best haul is still 4 from memory. Can't recall him kicking anymore than that in a season. Puts him equal with Rus' career best haul.

I do agree jc8 though. Rus' best is brilliant and probably better than Jack's, however, he cannot stay on the park. He absolutely dominated a few of the games he played in and it left you in awe watching him constantly dominate the forward 50.

It doesn't count to his overall stats, but he kicked 7 goals against AFL opposition, something Rusling will never do. It definitely counts when you are comparing the two players at their best.

Yeah and Jack's best season haul is 50 whereas Rusling's is about 10.

It is hilarious how overrated Rusling is around here. "Dominated" games? Laughable.

He was good in one final and for the most part either only passable or below average in the rest of the games he played.

I don't mind Rusling and I hope he eventually gets fit, but the bloke's reputation seems to grow and develop with each passing year that he isn't on the park. He'll have his own version of the Bible published after him by the time this 20 game career comes to an end.

Ruslings determination to get on the paddock after the set backs he has had speaks volume for him as a player.
I just hope his body allows him to show his best.

Exactly my line of thinking. If we get our hopes up there's a good chance we'll be let down.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I want him to come good and I think he has a lot of unfilled potential, I just think the longer people go without seeing him the more fanciful their memories of him become.

I'm not someone who thinks he should have been delisted or anything either, I definitely think he is/has been worth persevering with, but I'd take JA over him every day of the week... whether he was injury free or not.

Rusling has the reputation he has because in the limited time he's spent on the park, our forward line generally has a look about it that it doesn't have any other time, and that's the likelihood of a leading forward taking a grab and kicking a goal.

Jack has been okay at this, but he isn't as natural a forward as Rusling is, and you can generally rely on Rusling timing his leads better than Jack, which means that the odds of him being hit on the lead by a midfielder go through the roof.

It isn't rocket science, and it's not any "mythical" status that he's been elevated to - Rusling is a talent, and he's performed prominently in finals. We like him for that reason.

If you could have Ruzz, Jack and Cloke all in one forward line, i'd think that would be the most ideal situation, as all three bring something different to the table making it unpredictable for opposition backman

My only memories of "the rusler" are that when ever he has played he looks dangerous.
It's hard to go much further than that because of his horror run with injury.
One thing you can't doubt is his attack on the ball. None of his injury have been "innocuous". They have all been from going hard.

The problem with Rus is we don't know to what extent the injuries have cut him down is he gonna be the same player we saw in the 07 prelim hopefully yes

Still stand by what I've seen of both, and I've seen every Melbourne home and away game those two have ever played, if both fit and in form, and I can only pick one to play for me tomorrow, I'm picking Rusling.

Don't forget this is awfully subjective. I'm a big fan of Anthony, I'm a big fan of both, and I'm not playing favourites, I'm not exceptionally over-partial to either, but I'd pick Rusling.

Lucky for us we have both, so its not really a quandry we need consider. Could you play both in a forward line? Not sure. Be fun if they could that said.

Davis Cloke Dick
Rusling Anthony Medhurst

Get to it Bucks you great man.

This is true. We can only assume that if he was to maintain a consistent level of fitness (touch wood), then that would mean he is able to perform similar to what he has previously.

To bring up again that he was part of the group that went to Colorado pre-Arizona I think is extremely pertinent,. That says his mental application is there, hopefully his body has the ability to apply itself similarly and make it through the odd game or two... that'd be nice Sean..

Rusling is literally a lead out and mark type player. Won't offer much, if anything, when it comes to contested marking, defensive pressure and ability at ground level. For that reason, I can't see him working as a forward pocket, or in any role other than starting deep in the square and leading into space.

I can't see both Anthony and Rusling working in the same forward line personally.

The one advantage that Ruz has over Jack is fear factor. To put it simply when Ruz lines up in the forward line, the opposition panic, and panic spreads like wild fire. I mean in both the sydney and geelong games the thing I remember most is the fact that after the first 5 minutes of play the opposition defenses where all at sea, shirt tugging, holding, the lot. So I dont know about anyone else but the fact remains if Ruz is in he doesnt need to set the world on fire, I see him there more as Terror factor, look im happy if he only kicks 1-2 or two a match.

So ultimately Ruz is the spanner in the works for pretty much every team out there, hes built for a niche, a good one at that. Problem is hes also built like jello...

I think I read somewhere that he'll be played in the defensive half for the remainder of his career (99% sure).

Did see his forward potential when up & running though definitely, had the big dukes and a nice burst of pace.

??? one of our best players, he had 4 kicks and 2 goals for fecks sake! And that is a good game from Rusling!!

Have a look at Cloke's in that game, he was our best....although M.Clarke had a purple patch too, wish we still had him running off the hbf through the middle!

Jack Anthony and C.Dawes both had better games as forwards in the 08 EF against Adelaide.

Three blokes Rusling has to get in front of in 2010, which is a good thing if he can......just hope people dont turn on him if he actually does get a game and is not the messiah that he is made out to be!
