We either have games on a Thursday night OR some teams have 2 byes and the season is longer and there's more downtime for all clubs during a time where engagement is crucial. It's all very well detailed and explained as to why we're doing it. As for it being utterly dumb, I would argue that anyone who doesn't understand why we're playing games on a Thursday night is utterly dumb but alas, that's just my opinion ;).

But yes, with a 16 game season, we had 3 "outlier" games. So we either have a round with 6 teams playing and 7 teams with a second bye, the season goes longer OR we squeeze out a couple of days on either end of the rounds before and after and fit these in between other games in an attempt to lessen the impact of the second bye which is a whole week off.

If we have a 13 round season, it's roses and daisies. Every round we add to that, a team is missing an opponent and no one likes the byes as it is let alone 2 of them!

Next season will be much more straightforward however. Only 14 games to be played and the only quirk to happen will be one mid-week round, early in the season and then we can have a normal season for the rest of it.

The 6 teams that have byes are all due another game, which are the outliers:

OUTLIERS
Ophidian Old Boys v Gumbies FFC at Spotswood Oval
Baghdad Bombers v West Coast Wonders at Abdu Prison
Sin City Swamprats v Roys FFC at Underground Stadium

These three games could easily be in their own round but instead, by playing these in between the other rounds, we can avoid having complete byes for these 6 teams and by default, the 7 other teams in the "Outlier" round.


So by squeezing these games into between the other rounds, we shifted some games in these rounds so that 3 day match threads didn't exist and that each team was able to have a near enough like match thread experience as possible.

When you try and fit a square peg into a round hole, something has to give. So this is why we have some games on non-traditional nights. The Bombers are now into their match thread against the Warriors and that's played on Monday. Meaning that all three teams get to "play" this week as opposed to Wonders having a second bye (and by default all other teams).

Fighting Furies v Gold City Royals at rfctigerarmy's hippodrome
BYE: Sin City Swamprats

The 6 teams that have byes are all due another game, which are the outliers:

OUTLIERS
Ophidian Old Boys v Gumbies FFC at Spotswood Oval
Baghdad Bombers v West Coast Wonders at Abdu Prison
Sin City Swamprats v Roys FFC at Underground Stadium

These three games could easily be in their own round but instead, by playing these in between the other rounds, we can avoid having complete byes for these 6 teams and by default, the 7 other teams in the "Outlier" round.


So by squeezing these games into between the other rounds, we shifted some games in these rounds so that 3 day match threads didn't exist and that each team was able to have a near enough like match thread experience as possible.

When you try and fit a square peg into a round hole, something has to give. So this is why we have some games on non-traditional nights. The Bombers are now into their match thread against the Warriors and that's played on Monday. Meaning that all three teams get to "play" this week as opposed to Wonders having a second bye (and by default all other teams).

That's a lot of words for 'no we aren't playing on Sunday'.

So perhaps instead of calling me dumb maybe you can review the fixture first. So Bombers are playing the two games in a week because of their bye structure. That's all it took.

Geeze how dare I comment on our game in our game thread.

Perhaps the match thread title could include the game time as it did last time we played on a non-Sunday, i.e. last week. Just a thought.

How many years have games been solely on a Sunday compared to non-Sunday? Another thought.

I'm just educating you.

For sure, you'll have to address that concern with the person that created the thread though I suppose. Sorry to hear that you weren't aware it was scheduled for a Thursday as per the fixture.

I think you overestimate how many people consult the fixture on a weekly basis as opposed to just open the thread for their match.

Otherwise I'm not sure why you felt the need to alert our Team PM if everyone had their finger on the pulse. :)

That's just what a good LG member does ;) just like what another LG member did on the day as well as the weekend before.

I agree with you, the day should have been in the thread title but meh, it doesn't matter. Game is done, result is in and we move onto next week's fixture.
