Was anyone on here at the 2016 Season Launch breakfast earlier this week?
I would be interested to know what Ross Glendinning said on stage as he was, apparently, "counselled" by the club for saying something about the early years that may not have been PC?

If he did then good on him!

I was. He made a comment about the early days travelling to Melbourne and they would go for a run at Princes Park in the dark and that PHIL Narkle and some of the others boys were able to slack off and hide behind a tree.

Probably wasn't the time or place for it, but there was no malice behind it. It was about the dark skin and not being aboriginal, I wonder if he'd get in trouble for making the same comment about Naitanui

I wonder at what point in history did factual events become so PC?

It must be true as I have heard the same story from Chris Mainwaring and Peter Wilson!! So, if it is factually true .... where is the problem?

As soon as social media was invented...giving a voice to the eternally offended.. :)
lol I'd hate to see what you're like on the social medias whenever someone says something bad about Hutchings

He probably would if Fijians had a history of oppression by the society he represents.

I think political correctness gets taken too far sometimes, but I also think that it's often very easy to discount the impact that statements can have, especially when delivered/endorsed by someone in a relative position of power.

Also, we are assuming a lot about what the "counselling" RG received from the club entailed.

Could have been nothing more than a quiet "look, if you're going to represent the club/business/brand, you have to be a little more careful about saying things like that - ESPECIALLY when Phil Narkle is someone we employ for the very purpose of managing the welfare of our indigenous players".

I missed this years season launch unfortunately.

When Ross comes into work, he doesn't mind telling a story (especially when he has had a brew or two)

Yep ... He doesn't mind a vodka or two and a ciggy!

Was at the launch and had Nelson on our table. Such a innocent that I wonder how he consistently puts his body on the line.
We has Paddy Brophy

Ripping bloke

Is he enjoying it over here?
Yep, loving Perth. Loves the weather, the beaches, and he's enjoying the club - spoke very highly about the way they treat the boys. I asked him if he thought he was aiming to get a game this year and he didn't sound too hopeful - was pretty much resigned to playing the year at East Perth.

Couple of tidbits - we talked about the GF Sprint - asked if he was the quickest at the club - he said Nic would be over 100m. Also talked about the 2km time trials they do - said Masten/Gaff/Cripps (one other two I think) were the quickest at about 6:05 (which I think we all knew), he came in about 6:20 and the slowest guys would be just over 7 minutes. I'm amazed that t he slowest guys would be that quick.

It's probably more that it's an unnecessary comment. We all know the current climate, there's no need to even potentially cause an issue over such an irrelevant story.

There was a guy i used to serve with that did the BFA (Basic fitness assessment) run which is 2.4km in ~6:30. The guy was a ****ing machine. I was mostly around 8 minutes. It would take me a good day to do it now.

That's insanely quick

I ran the BFA at 7 minutes flat in the third test of it in recruit school in the navy. That was a record back in 2002.

I think that his time of 6:30 wasn't even the Army record :drunk:
If you didn't get under 8 minutes it was considered a fail even though the cutoff was 11:20 ish for under 25.
