A small group of us are off to Melbourne for the weekend and we'll (naturally) be at the Lions game on Sunday arvo in full voice.

Just need some advice about tickets/seating at the ground.

Bearing in mind that the game's going to have a relatively small attendance, is is worth taking a punt on GA tickets? If I do get GA tickets, are the places you can sit within the ground still highly restrictive?

According to the Ticketec site the only other options are Level 1 Wing, Level 2a Wing or Level 2 goals, which are all significantly more expensive than GA.

Also, where would be a likely venue to meet up with /share a few refreshment with other supporters before the game?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Great viewing level 2 but for mine not worth forking out the $ when you should be able to score a front row seat (or close enough to it) on level 3 in the southern stand with a GA ticket which I would just get on the day if I was you unless you are happy paying a booking fee.

As far as a drink before the game there are plenty of choices - we frequent the Royal Richmond opposite Punt Rd oval (best Google it first as it might not be your cup of tea), the Cricketers Arms is also opposite Punt Rd oval a hundred or so metres from the Royal (both a 5min walk to the G).

Some games with smaller crowds will allow you to upgrade to a level one seat if you ask early enough, or there is a small GA section on level one in other cases which fills up relatively quickly.

However the game vs. the Dees last year had neither which was surprising. I'd get a GA seat and cross your fingers they open up parts of level one, otherwise get a decent level 3 GA seat which is still good. That's what I'll be doing.

The MCG has plenty of GA tickets you can buy at the gate. The GA areas are listed here: http://www.mcg.org.au/whats-on/events-calendar/2015/july/melbourne-v-brisbane-lions

Great Southern Stand
M1
M2 (Demon Heartland)
M3-M12
P1-P7
Q1-Q15

Ponsford Stand
M28-M35
M36 (Brisbane Lions supporters)
Q29-Q36

Olympic Stand

M54-M57
Q49-57

M= bottom level
P= third level
Q= fourth level

If you arrive an hour before the game, you should get some good seats on level three. If their are none on level three, there are plenty of seats on the bottom level to choose from.

I would just get general admission tickets on the day and sit at the bottom of the Ponsford stand behind the goals. This is where our cheersquad will be and most Lions supporters. It is not the best viewing spot in the ground, but that is made up for by the amount of Lions support around you.

Don't forget to head to the Brunswick St Ground on Saturday to see Fitzroy if possible. Wish I could be going to both games...

Great seating P1 - 7 :)

Get ga and will have choice of seats in the ground as they'll barely bother checking tickets.

Re: the royal pub recommendation. No good if you have ladies in your group ;)

The Club recommends getting GA entry tickets and sitting in the Lions-only area in M36 (this is on Level 1 next to the players' race). I suspect this area will fill up quickly on the day, following which I'd recommend trying in M35.

The BL cheer squad will be in M33 (behind the goals).

You will literally be allowed to sit anywhere. Sunday game, most likely freezing, Melbourne home game v interstate team in July...20,000 would be a great achievement.
