These arguments are dumb ? To an extent , a batsman's class will be revealed in his numbers .Which is why cricinfo has a weekly stats column not to mention a stats editor. All I did was compare the two against their best opponents , not the numerical jugglery that you exaggerate

do you actually think theres a difference with a batsman who averages 54 to one to averages 50?

cause if you do you are a saying Sehwag was a better batsman then Viv Richards :o

India has upcoming tours of Eng , SA and Aus in the next 18 months. If he racks up the big ones consistently , king viv might have to take a backseat.

He tours SA and England terribly, can't see that happening.

To what extent? Bradman averaged 100 and everyone picks him in an all time team. Then there are a heap of guys who averaged between 45 and 60. I'm sorry to say that if a batsman's class is revealed by numbers, none of your beloved Indians make the cut. An all time team based on numbers alone reveals this team:

George Headley
Herb Sutcliffe
Don Bradman
Graham Pollock
Ken Barrington
Eddie Paynter

Sehwag hasn't made a 100 or even a 50 in a test match that India has won outside of Asia.

wow thats an absolutely crazy stat.

Sehwag does tend to be a flat trick bully, thats what it comes down to. When you want someone to pile on the runs on a batsman paradise you'd always pick Sehwag, but if the going is a bit tougher.. Punter comes through.

Not exactly.Sehwag's bucaneer style makes him more susceptible on bouncy pitches. If he sets anchor like in Adelaide or Galle which he rarely does , he can be just as resilient.

That's like saying his centuries in Aus , Eng , SA and WI are useless because India's bowlers or the rest of their batsmen failed to do their job
You would make a fine cricket pundit someday.

I think you missed out on the 'If' part , spud

Nah mate, saw the 'if,' a bit of an outrageous comment regardless I think.

Sehwag could score 1000 runs in each of those series, and daylight would still separate him and Sir Viv.

Viv revolutionised the way batsmen went about scoring runs, in both the test and one day arena.

I'm a fan of Sehwag, but Viv is just one of the greats.

Don't forget New Zealand and England.

An average close to 40 in Eng is bad? Ponting must have had a poor showing there then.Sehwag has toured Eng just once.

Why is NZ considered important here - a minnow nation if anything.

And Ponting's average is superior when you don't include minnow nations (home & away).

What's your point?

No , what is your point ?
You're the one who mentioned Sehwag's away record.I said Ponting fares no better.

If you are talking about minnows , refer post 16 and 19.

Ponting is a far superior play to Sehwag who's ability to win matches away from from Asia is non-existent.

If you're talking about minnows you're not including Pakistan, West Indies or Sri Lanka.

While you're at it , you can exclude Eng as well seeing as they were pretty much useless the last decade apart from winning an Ashes in 05.Consider the top 3.

Australia , India and SA had the highest W/L ratios in the noughties not to mention all three were ranked no.1.

Better yet , why not take a head to head of Ind vs Aus

If you are disregarding England, you may as well disregard India as well. Considering that all they can beat in away series is minnows.

You wan't to disregard Ponting's achilles heel ? Fine with me.

That leaves us with SA.Sehwag still averages more.

I agree that Ponting and Sehwag are better than Tendulkar. Along with Matthew Hayden.
