Is he any good?

Interested to hear Crows fans feedback on James as he has been linked to CFC as part of Jacobs deal

Sellar has been rated as the second Wayne Carey.

Will be an absolute gun, and you would be VERY lucky to have him at the Blues.

;)

Well there is enough responses in those threads regarding this. So I am not sure what else you are looking for.

Essentially a high draft pick, who is too short to be a ruckman and not good enough to be a first 22 KPP on Adelaide's list. Played as a ruckman in the SANFL as Glenelg has no decent rucks.

Is he good enough to be a KPP on Carlton's list is another kettle of fish. I would say "Yes" because your KPP stocks are non existent. He is still young and I think he would come along a lot if he was given a CHB role for a year. Would help if he could play that position in reserves as well.

All that being said he will never be an elite backman but than again neither will Jacobs or Walker ever be elite either. So he is probably worth more to you than is percieved and if you get him could be a nice little bonus.

Nice of you to ask, rather than just assuming he's a spud based on a a Port Adelaide troll thread in Bay 13.

I don't think anyone will suggest that James hasn't been disappointing to date. Took a long time to really establish himself in Glenelg's seniors, has had injury and sickness troubles, and hasn't really shown enough in any position to warrant a regular call up to our side. As has been said, he looks a natural ruckman, but is just a bit too short to make it at AFL level these days in that role.

Despite all this, you'll find most posters haven't written him off. When he's played as our second ruck, he's actually looked pretty good around the ground (despite severely limited gametime) and there's definitely talent there. His preseason games as a defender were also promising. He looks slow, but he's actually pretty agile for his size and looks very comfortable in traffic. He makes good decisions under pressure and his skills are generally tidy. We've had great depth in terms of key defenders, however, so he hasn't been able to get much of a go there, which is unfortuante, as it looks like if he's going to make it, it'll be as a key back (who can swing forward or into the ruck when needed).

Basically, he's still only 22 and appears to be one of those guys who takes a few years to put it all together (as is common for blokes his height). I think we've given up on him being a superstar, but I'm fairly confident he'll surprise a few people in the next couple of years. I actually hope we don't trade him right at this moment for that very reason. Not a certainty to make it by any chance, but a better prospect than many give him credit for.

I'm pretty sure he's the AFL leading goal kicker in Dubai:)

Seriously what others have said is pretty accurate. He was very highly rated and we probably couldn't believe that he slipped to us in the draft. He certainly hasn't shown any signs that he'll be the star that we hoped. It has however been unfortunate for his development that he's had to play as a ruck. He's too small to be an AFL ruck but there is/has been no spot for him in our side as a KPP - mainly because our talls are very good. I think if he could go to a side where he's given the oppurtunity to develop as a key defender he could be a very solid player. He has the flexibilty to pinch hit in the ruck or have spell up forward if required but I think he is most likely to make it as a key defender.

Ive always been a bit of a fan of Jim, mainly because of the ticker he showed when it was clear he was not simply going to take AFL by the scruff of the neck.

He really bottomed out with a lot of time in Glenelg reserves but showed heart, commitment and persistence to work his way back to league level before eventually establishing himself in the AFC side for the latter part of the 09 season at a time when we were really carving sides up.

Although not dominating I thought this little period was critical for his belief in himself and he certainly won the coaches approval for his attitude and attack on the footy.

I had great expectations for Jim in 2010 and I will always recall the way he started against Sydney in an early game...looked really good, confident and I thought here we go, finally he's going to rip it up. Sadly he was injured in that game and never recovered the season from there.

I know he tests the patience but what he showed in early 2010 before injury just says to me.......one more year before closing the book on Jim.

Is Sellar being linked to Carlton purely because 5AA's S. Rowe said he went there for a checkup? Anything more concrete than that? Or is that all we have to go on?

I work with his Dad and he's being very tight-lipped about it all, prick won't tell us anything ha.

Yes, he'll be a good player. Talls generally don't break out til 23-25, and his junior career as a ruck hasn't helped his KP development.

He's approximately equal value to Jacobs right now, and is only 21 (one year younger than Jacobs).

I'd prefer not to lose him, but with Rutten and Davis holding down our KP back positions, he's not quite first 22.

If we didn't have McKernan, he'd probably be perfect Leigh Brown-type second ruck to Jacobs.

Trevor Cranston says hi. Hes only been the number 1 ruck in the league the last three years.

I want him to stay. I think he is going to be something - I am not sure what - I have him either as that clunker centre half forward we have been looking for or the big bloke on the bench who can do ruck or stand in front of Barry Hall.

I rate Sellar actually.

Does some nice things in close, can pick up a ball off the deck quite well for a big guy.

Hasn't really put it together yet though.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good argument.
