What can you say?! Unbelievable. Count our blessings lads. He is ours!

Future captain is all I can say. Sometimes I forget this kid has only played 30-odd games. He's a rare talent, plays with the composure of a 200-gamer, hard at the ball, good foot/hand skills and above all else, a smart footballer. He's one of those rare players you know will do something constructive every time they get their hands on the Sherrin.

He is great, though tonight pipped by Bartel for BOG. Still not bad for his second year!

He's had an amazing year - especially in the second half. The tougher it is, the more he likes it too.

He'll have the lot when he finishes.

selwood and judd should prove to recruiters that injuries to young guns should not scare you off picking them up. judd at no.3, selwood at no.7.... how do you think the 8 teams that missed on these boys would be feeling.

on selwood, it scares me to think how much his game has gone up this year compared to last. in last years premiership side he was considered a young midfielder to allow the elite guys to have a rest. he is now an elite midfielder deserving of a starting role in the midfield and can consistently get and win his own hard ball. Teams would give their all to have one player like this and we are lucky enough to have two with joel and jimmy bartel.....

has any player earnt all australian selection in their second year of afl football????????

its always amazing how he is constantly our best player (or among our best) when the tide is against us. I can just see him performing a match saving quarter of footy in a big final one day to write himself into super-stardom!!!

As previously said...he is a RARE talent

He is tougher than 10 men. No wonder he is widley seen as being better than Gibbs and Pendlebury who are good players but they are not even in the same ballpark as Selwood when it comes to toughness.

ABSOLUTE GUN!!!

Its scary how good this kid is going to be with what he's doing now in just his 2nd year.

His last 5 games he's averaging 31 touches. Hard as nails, leads by example with his attack on the contest, wins his own footy, his decision making is that of a 10 year player and rarley turns it over, what more can you say.........

does anyone else see the 2006 season as a defining moment in our clubs history?

Sure we didn't get the results we THOUGHT we wanted.... but we did get pick no. 7 in the draft.....

Yeah and if Port Adelaide didn't take Boak we might have not had Selwood either. He's just such a good player, we're just really lucky to have him in our team!

I thought he was your best last night his in an under work was second to none and his strength to get an effective handball out when being tackled was first class. I honestly thought he was easily better than Bartel.

True, some of his bits of play might have suggested that he was better than Bartel last night but from what i can remember, as a whole Bartel just seemed to take control and was better on the night. It will be though interesting watching the replay and comparing the two!

Heard him interviewed on ABC radio this afternoon in the pre-game, and he said he has modelled his game on Paul Kelly from Sydney. It certainly shows in the way he goes about it.

Absolute gun of a player....and he's only 37 games into his career!

Weren't we going to pick Travis Boak with No 7, except Port Adelaide took him first? rare good luck to get Joel, and maybe travis will move home in due course.
Also, I heard a radio interview over here a few years back (pre-pick No 7), ahead of a Wet Toast clash with (musta been) either St Kilda or Hawthorn. Story went that the 4 kids growing up together playing backyard footy against each other were the twins, dal Santo and Ladson.
Can you just imagine the couple-years younger little kid looking on? Joining in? fighting above his weight to get hold of it. Woulda been a little pest. Plays like that now.

Sorry for jumping on your board you guys, but he is an absolute ripper. Fantastic footy brain and such a strong body for a young guy. Great pickup.

In the past Stephen Wells has stated that we had Selwood down as our dream pick, with Boak as the realistic pick.

At no stage did we think Joel would slip to 7, so we'd planned on taking Boak.

Wells was shocked that Selwood was passed over early, and coming towards pick 5 he was all smiles, but then Port took Boak unexpectedly.
Wells was dreading Hawthorn taking Selwood and thus leaving us with the prospect of being forced to take a player we weren't overly keen on.

Thankfully Hawthorn went for Mitch Thorp, and the rest is history.

The only question perhaps is when will he be captain? How much footy does Tom Harley have in him ?
Have followed this kid since under 18s. Wish he was playing at my club.
