Sequels that should never have happened

The sequels that didn't need to be made, or were no where near as good as the original, or that ruined the series or that just didn't work.

Classic example for me is Final Fantasy X-2. FFX had one of the saddest and most powerful endings of all time, then they throw together some rubbish school girl teeny bopper sequel.

So what sequels just didn't need to be made?

On another note, what games are out that you hope they don't sequel. For me, Batman and the God of War series while great, I think they finished nicely storyline wise and hope that the developers resist making another.

I wouldn't mind another Metal Gear game but Metal Gear Rising REVENGEANCE looks like utter garbage and will **** the storyline of one of the main characters of such an awesome story right up.

Call of Duty should make a sequel every 3 years.

Hopefully with Red Dead they leave they go about it GTA style, retire the character but reuse the game style with new characters/location.

Agree with the idea that the new Metal Gear game looks awful.

KOTOR 2 was quite disappointing after how brilliant the first one was, it was clearly rushed. Should have been 10x better than what it was.

The 2nd Turok game was also horrendous, steaming pile of shit.

But surely SMB 2 wins this hands down, god knows what Nintendo was thinking when they released that ****, why they though the game it was copied from would make a good SMB game was a very stupid decision.

SMB 1 & 3 were brilliant games, 2 was complete trash.

Twisted Metal: 1 was good, 2 was one of the best games on the original playstation then there was a change of developers or something and the next couple were horrendous.

I thought FFX had a great ending.

Off the top of my head Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands

Completely unnecessary, a game I refuse to play out of spite for the company.

The cel shaded Prince of Persia was one of my favourite games of the generation, great plot and got completely cast aside for a game timed for the movie release.

I think of it as inferior rather than bad. It did actually have its moments.

SMB 2 was brilliant. Completely different to any Mario game. Such a change from 1. You Sir are drunk and disorderly.

I could never get into GTA 2. Thought it was a step back from 1.

Halo 3. Well, they should have made a Halo 3, just not the game they made. Tarnished a sci-fi epic.

Red Faction 2. Strong ignore everything that made the first game good for some Japanese Blade Runner bland shooter thing. Fixed a bit of the damage with the retcons in Guerilla but appear to do have done the same thing again with Armageddon, which admittedly I have not played.

Just a note on Bioshock 2 - i think of it as more of an expansion than a whole new game. When you take it at face value, for a bastardised cash grab, it was pretty entertaining, and respected, if not complimented, the original's story and ideas.

How about the sequals that we never got? Are we ever gping too see a thematic and narrative sequal to the original quake?
