As we lead into the final round of Season 33 of the SFA, one of the key awards still up for grabs is the right to claim the Fred Medal. For those unaware - the Fred Medal is awarded to the player who kicks the most goals during the home and away fixtures of any one season. It is named after former BigFooty admin and Sweet FA + Roys FFC legend Fred (RIP). The winner gains bragging rights and a spiffy little Fred badge to add to their collection. View attachment 1276459
Barring a minor miracle from Barrybran (whatever happened to that diary?), there are still seven contenders remaining with a single game to be played this season: Fire Chicken Itsmyshow (66), Dragon Bonz (65), Royal spookism (64), Emu sante (62), Bear Cap (61), Warrior BEEG (60) and lolWonder Brenton Davy (60). The latter four are probably outsiders - needing big hauls this week and a quiet day out from the top three - whilst the focus will be on IMS, Bonz and spook.
Itsmyshow is showing form at the right time of the season, with his huge haul of eight goals in Round 16 propelling him into the lead after spending the majority of the season lurking in the top four. Prior to that, bags of six goals in Rounds 2, 6, 9 and 13 kept his tally ticking along - whilst his only goalless match was in Round 14 against the Bombers.

Right behind him on 65 goals is Dragons superstar Bonz, who has been leading the pack for a large chunk of the season - in fact by Round 7 he was nine goals clear of second place! His lead was gradually whittled down over the past few rounds, but a victory is still very much in reach. 11 goals in Round 6 shows that he can go big on his day, and he has kicked five or more goals on six occasions this season. Goalless days out in Round 8 and 13 shows that he's prone to a quiet one, but both occasions were courtesy of Coach AceAndy sending him to the pine in one of his crazy schemes.
Then we have dear old spookism in third place, a goal further back on 64. Spook also has a 11 goal bag to his name back in Round 9, and seven 5+ goal hauls for the season - but he's gone quiet lately with five goals total over the past three rounds. He has been leading the competition on a couple of occasions throughout, but can he rediscover his form in time to nab the Fred?

No zero-goal hauls at all, and five 5+ goal bags - including an impressive nine in Rounds 7 and 12. He's in similar form to spook though, with only five goals in his last three games.
A special shoutout to Rat duo Catsnlakers & okeydoke7 who have combined for 62 goals from full forward this season and would be sitting in fourth place with sante and a shot at the title...if only philreich wasn't so indecisive with his team sheet selections.
So who do you think will take home the chocolates? Or could there even be a tie just like last season? The main focus of Sunday's games will be on who takes the last remaining finals spot and the four-way battle for the minor premiership, but this race will well and truly be worthy of following closely too.
