Looks like we've pulled out all stops to lure this kid...extract from Courier Mail

RICHMOND yesterday stepped up its campaign to lure Brisbane Lions speedster Rhan Hooper with senior club officials visiting Ipswich to talk to him.

The hit-and-run visit was headed by coach Terry Wallace.
Wallace, assistant coach Craig McRae, a triple Brisbane premiership player, and Tigers utility Richard Tamblyn met Hooper in Ipswich last night.

It's understood the Tigers are prepared to offer the out-of-contract Hooper $500,000 over three years.

If we were interested in Judd, theres no way we would offer a kidd half a mill over 3 years.

Carlton cant be that stupid not to see what Richmond are doing.

The thing I like most about this article is that Bling went along for the discussion.
Forget all of the usual Tambling this & that discussion, I like that he appears to be of a good character... enough to travel with the coach to attract prospective recruits. :thumbsu:

$500,000 over three years is chickens feed if I'm reading it right Punter. $170k per year. Isn't Krak on something absurd for his output? We could fit in both easily (still think we've got Buckleys of getting Judd).

Yup, Brisbane are under salary cup pressure. They cant even offer him that much. :thumbsu:

bloody must be as 170k a year isnt much by league standards...right earlier on Krak was on a reported 250k a year...this young fella would be a step up from him....why dont we swap JON for him:confused:

True Harvey but in this deal, to me it appears that Hooper is out of contract and Richmond would pick him up in the Preseason draft, therefore our leverage in the Judd deal is cancelled out.

Brisbane are trying to meet with Hooper to get him to sign on, they dont want to lose him or trade him.

Have you seen Bling interviewed on TV or heard him on radio?
One of the more articulate and intelligent young men I've ever heard for his age. has a very good head on his shoulders.

Hooper would be a reasonable PSD get provided we are convinced he's not going to go missing again.

Hooper comes with baggage don't forget.
Walked out on the Lions citing lack of interest and went back to Ipswich to be closer to his family. I mean, Ipswich is as close to brisbane as Werribee is to Melbourne.

Couldn't agree more. Good call. Articulate, mature and grounded. :thumbsu:

However, I'm not sure that we should be going after Hooper. Seems to have some baggage. For a guy that's getting paid at least $100k per year to play footy then turns around and says he's lost the passion for it, it seems strange to me. You'd have to be worried about his commitment. He has got good skills and blistering pace though.

he is only 19 may have been something he has grown out of now i think he cama back and did a pre-season on his own I think sounds like he has some maturity

If TW went along for the ride, then the kid is required for the big picture. That will do me. Unless of course TW just needed to top up the tan and saw it as a good oppotunity to tag along. ;)
