I recently saw Session 9 on DVD and found it very enthralling! Anyway, for some reason, it made me think of two other movies, that are, as far as I can tell, completely unrelated, and pretty much very different.

The two movies are Hardware and Sexy Beast.

The only connection was that I found myself very thumbsuppy about all three.

Anyone else want to comment on any of these three movies?

The only one I've heard of is Hardware. I remember liking it when I saw it, but it's been a loooong time now. Is it out on DVD here?

(The thing I remember most clearly is that lullaby-type song the obese guy sang in it... "we all walk the wibbity wobbety walk...".)

I also liked Hardware, which is also the only one I've seen. It also had Lemmy from Motorhead in it at the start, as a taxi driver.
Ah yes, that's right. :thumbsu: Good soundtrack, too, from memory.

Edit: Just found this page. You can actually donwload the mp3s from the soundtrack CD as it's no longer in print. http://www.everythingisundercontrol.org/soundtrack.html

I absolutely love Hardware and it will probably never be released on DVD, although there was some dodgy Red Eye edition released in Germany.

I had a VHS copy that I got from some video shop next to Peter Stevens in Elizabeth St. I saw it back in 1991/2 at the Valhalla (Melbourne). If anyone recalls, an M rated version was being shown at most cinemas, but Valhalla had the R rated version. I think I was in love with Stacey Travis back then, had a thing for redheads back then (that includes Tanya Roberts from Beastmaster).

I bought the soundtrack when it came out and it still blows me away, but yeah, the mp3s are available at the site listed above. Read through the forums and it's quite clear no DVD is ever likely to be released.

"As for the good news, there is noooooo ****ing good news! So let's rock, with one of our golden oldies ...."

Yeah, I'm a fan.

The Valhalla began with the M version and then changed to the R version a little later.

It's a top film and quite unlike anything I've seen before or since. Sadly the director's promising career was ruined by the disastrous experience of "The Island of Doctor Moreau". For those interested in his followup to "Hardware", the fascinating "Dust Devil" (1992), it is screening on Foxtel next month which is the first time it has ever been officially released in this country. A quite amazing film from a unique talent.

Yeah I've been dying to see Dust Devil, that's a good find to spot it on cable.

Yep it's on Movie Extra, Wednesday October 4 at 1:45pm.

"This is what you want, this is what you get."

Back to the OP, I've seen Sexy Beast, and it didn't really grab me as much as it did many reviewers.

Haven't seen Session 9, but I see it has David Caruso, so how good could it be?

There is a DVD of Dust Devil due to be released shortly - a 5 (yes, FIVE!) disc edition! Might be a little overkill there.

Please God make one of the discs Hardware (MARK 13) :thumbsu:

I'm not so sure about it being "dodgy". I found these reviews of it. They generally seem pretty positive:

Had a brief look around and saw it for sale on a few different websites for around $10 AU (without postage etc.).

It's a pity a "real" version doesn't look likely. I'm seriously tempted to get hold of the Red Edition. I've got a friend staying in Germany at the moment, so I might get him to grab a copy for me. I'd love to see it again. It must be around fifteen years since I last saw it.

I think I read the quality wasn't fantastic, something about it wasn't A grade, can't remember. Maybe I'm wrong.

It's a shame. If something doesn't get a DVD release, it may has well never have been produced in the first place. Same goes for sports. If there's no video of it, what's the point? And Mobbenfuhrer may be interested in this, I've looked for a copy of the 1978 Fitzroy Night Grand Final but I don't think there's a video/DVD of that. It's a shame there's no single Fitzroy premiership on tape :thumbsd:

I finally saw Sexy Beast a few months ago. It was one of those movies that lazyness got in the way of seeing a fantastic film.

This movie is pure Ben Kingsley. He owns this movie, almost every frame that he's in, just superb.... and **** scary. :D

Although I can see plenty of people that would think that aside from Kingsley, that the movie is arse. It's just one of those movies.

As for Hardware? I'm sure I've seen the cover in my local video store for about a decade and I've never picked it up. Probably because it was R rated and it looks like a pretty cheesy sci-fi (I can't believe I haven't seen it now..).

That's it, I'm downloading now.. :)

Well, it's not A-grade, as you say, but the picture quality seemed reasonably good from what the reviews said. And it's the uncut version to boot.

"Old school" night grand finals don't seem to be available as far as I can tell. You can't even buy Collingwood's 1979 win, which I find kind of surprising. I'd love to get hold of some old games with the name-a-game website, but I don't want VHS. Video is bloody horrible.

I see you found the torrent as well. :) Also downloading now. I just hope it's not going to be one of those movies that I really liked years ago, then when I watch it again years later I wonder what the hell I was thinking when I originally liked it. :(

I've got a hunch it will hold up reasonably well, though the special effects pre-date CGI, so I suspect they'll look ordinary. Fingers crossed...

Great film, can't add much to this save what an opening with that boulder?

Ok seems to be a lot of folks that have fond memories of Hardware. Glad to hear it, I definitely want to give it another look, Lemmy driving a cab and Iggy on the radio?

Re Sexy Beast, I was a very big fan, as some1 said, pure Ben Kingsley, loved it, though wouldn't be a winner for everyone.

Session 9, yes it has David Caruso, fortunately I didn't know who he was (apparently he's in some current televsion serial? I don't watch them). Well, give it a burl. I was very much impressed. I had to think about it for quite some time afterward to work out how the pieces fit together. Now it won't be to everyone's tastes either, as it's sort of Blair Witch'ey, and we all know how that divided the horror fans into two distinct factions!

Re the footy, I have Fitzroy '89 reserves prem on tape :D also two Fitzroy Reds prems ;)

I've ordered it from Amazon. $20 for a 5-DVD box set!!! Never seen the film, don't know much about it, but seeing as I loved Hardware so much, and he made this around the same time, I hope I can at least give it a pass mark.

Sexy Beast is an ace flick. I could watch Ray Winston in anything, and Ben Kingsely ripped the balls off every scene.

I'm sure Channel 7 played it in a midnight-ish timeslot about 5 years back.

I just picked a copy of Hardware (Region 2) from Amazon.co.uk.

Watched it the other night, still very enjoyable. Great soundtrack and quality gore.
