TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
for DESTRUCTIVE WIND, FLASH FLOODING and LARGE HAILSTONES
For people in the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges, West Coast, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Flinders, Mid North, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East and parts of the Lower South East and Northwest Pastoral districts.
Issued at 3:55 pm Wednesday, 19 December 2007.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce destructive wind gusts in excess of 120 km/h, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area during today. Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Whyalla, Renmark, Clare, Naracoorte and Roxby Downs.
A number of houses have been damaged by severe thunderstorms in the Lameroo and Pinnaroo area.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Secure or put away loose items around your property.
* Move cars under cover or away from trees.
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while storms are nearby.
The next warning is due to be issued by 6:55 pm.
If severe thunderstorms develop in the Adelaide Region, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 215. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
