I am surprised we don’t have a thread yet on this topic because it is an area that is growing exponentially and is primed to impact our lives and world as much, or more, in the near future as anything else.

Anyway, thought I would start one here if anyone interested at some stage.

Nobel Prize winner Demis Hassabis.

AI is being under hyped at the moment. I reckon it will slap us all in the face soon enough. The gigabytes of power required for Super intelligent AI require astronomical amounts power…from somewhere. . There is a massive AI war between the US and China as to who will be supreme in this area.
Incredible times. And AI doubling its power every 5.9 months.Exponential!
The change will be rapid. Doubt we are ready or even capable as humans to deal with the rapidity of the coming change in our lives and society
Predicted that we will have AGI in five years.

There is talk that this AI could replace many scientists too in developing drugs.
Fascinating but certainly without its serious concerns, like a runaway train. And of course where does regulation come into it and how cooperative will work powers be with each other?

If you follow the Ai Insta feeds you’ll see the guys forging ahead with Ai have no real concerns about peoples jobs, it’s all about who will be first and who wins. When it impacts my job to the point of not having one I’ll do something with more human interaction.

Governments have no idea how to deal with it, how will they replace their tax dollars when a machine takes jobs? Nobody has any idea where it’s all going IMO.

Yes it can all get out of hand very quickly. The rapidity of how it is evolving is incredible and will come as a massive shock soon enough.

This should worry everyone...

The ability to use AI to deep fake someone's identity means that no one is safe and I am not sure what Governments around the globe can do about it. This scam probably originates in Australia as Norman Swann would not be that well known outside of Australia so the target audience is probably Australian. Then again maybe some devious mind has connections outside of Australia.

Meanwhile in the UK Elton John has threatened court action to protect his work. He has threatened to take the UK Government to court over it's proposal to change copyright laws to allow AI firms to pirate artists work. Sir Elton has said Sir Kier Starmer needs to 'wise up' and has labelled the Technology Secretary Peter Kyle as a 'bit of a moron'. The UK Government has said it wants both creative artists and the AI industry to flourish.

In my view AI is extremely useful when used in legitimate areas such as medicine but it is a real threat to individual creativity. If the world wasn't full of brain dead leaders they would get together and create global covenants limiting the use of AI.

We live in really worrying times.
