It sounds like you want your pay offs all at once to me.

I prefer the slower reveals and ongoing mystery. This show has been great at leaving crumbs then giving an answer reasonably quickly. The Helly/Helena issue being the prime example.

Yeah some issues are still unanswered (goats etc) but there wouldn’t be a show if we knew everything already.

I’m confident there will be no Lost type situation here.

That's definitely not my issue. The Helena thing was good storytelling for me because it was directly from the main storyline we have been following and we were clued in as the audience to assume it was the case that she wasn't what she appeared. It's the jolty pivots away from what we have been watching into Dali like scenes with no clue as to what is happening that are a lot less enjoyable for me. There is a lot of questions already going on at the moment that it's a lot.

Anyway would be interested to hear what people think the outdoor retreat even was

They’ve made mention that there’s a team building space. It was on Peteys map.

Narrative wise. I believe they were meant to be in this nature space as a way for whoever is pulling the strings to get the other three against Mark. We saw Irving get snippy early on with all the walking, and we already know Lumon only needs/ desperately wants Mark to complete his file. The other three are only there at his request. So if they all suddenly had a falling out it would benefit Lumon and enable them to isolate Mark.

There’s a second theory I saw on Reddit that suggests Helena is behind the camping trip, as she wanted to get close to Mark to bang like they did.. idk about that one but her having an agenda? I can see it.

I struggled to get through Ep 1

Tell me why I should come back?
First time around I got through 2 episodes as it was interesting but just too slow and couldn't hold my attention.

I restarted last weekend and have binged the whole series and now up to date. It's a great show if you like dark sci-fi with an absurdist edge. The actors are all great too.

Well I crept to Ep 4 but **** it’s a slog

Mark's outtie personality is creeping in to his innie.
Absolutely.

Even his grieving was very outie Mark. Going inwards.

His clash with Milkshake in the lift was very outie M.

I've just caught up with Counterpart after only watching a few episodes previously and couldn't help but notice the similarities with Severance, namely the unseen "management" on level 4 and the two versions of the self. I'd be surprised if they didn't get some inspiration from there.

One episode a week is killing me after bingeing it in a week or so. Feel like there's definitely something more going on here to do with his dead wife as alluded to earlier in the thread. Don't want to read any fan theories yet but it has a definite Lynch feel about it.

Uses too many big words

GROW!!!

Helly R sitting in the hallway was heartbreaking.

A great episode again. The dinner with Burt and Fields a highlight.

I can’t see many happy endings in this show. 🙁

We're all looking deep for explanations for the plot but seriously, the parallels to work/life relationships/environments are just as deep. Look at Dylans dynamic and how that plays out in many relationships.

Lost was a great show during season 1 til we figured out there was little to no direction. If things don't come together here then it's a very apt comparison. Fingers crossed it's not though

Are we falling for another Lost here?

This is getting too weird to be part of a well concieved grand plan. If Im wrong then this is one of the greatest pieces of tv of all time. Strongly suspect we will be deeply disapointed and they are making this up as they go along.

Explain "too weird".

Nearly every secret is unveiled but by bit as we move along, except of course for the really big issue stuff (otherwise there would be no show to watch).

This is so meticulously planned and executed at every level that I have zero concerns about it not having an end game. Whether we are happy about it remains to be seen. I’m confident we will be but it will be heartbreaking.
