Thing is though, he can't stay down there forever.
Eventually he's going to have to leave the severed floor and then outie Mark will be calling the shots.

My prediction though is that the re-integration procedure is going to cause some havoc in this regard and could get ugly if there is a fight for control of his body.

Yeah no idea what the plan here would be given Lumon have no use for him anymore and Helly will be removed and clearly never come back because why would she?

Logically they will just switch them all off like they did Irving and that will be that

They start to lose me a bit with the idea of two seperate people trying to control one body. Like it’s the same person obviously just with memory blocks and as you remove them you just become more aware. Leans a bit too much into the idea they are completely seperate people at times
That's the whole point of the show though (apart from the anti-corporate vibe).

For all intents and purposes they are different people - at the moment anyway.

I don't think Irving is switched off. He's just not allowed back on the severed floor which would activate the chip.

If you remove the chip you die.

They are different memories and experiences of the same person though not actually different people. It’s just different levels of awareness. Just feels like they are leaning a bit into it being two different people for a better word in a shared body which it obviously isn’t

They can make the call remotely though to switch it on and off like we saw happen to Helly and Irving so they can’t just bunker down and escape it

The whole point though is that being severed creates a person with a completely different consciousness as they have no memory or experience of anything before the date they are severed.

They are then like a clone almost. They are a different person with a different personality. This is what creates the dilemmas they face.

These themes have been explored in several episodes of black mirror.

In terms of trying to reintegrate or whatever though it’s simply one person having their memory blocks removed from either side. It’s not actually two people. Being severed is nothing more than a memory block

Yeah I guess so, but what is switched off can probably be switched back on. At the moment there is no evidence that they’ve switched off Irving, he’s just in a position where he can’t get switched on because he’s not allowed in the building.

We also don’t know if the overtime contingency or Glasgow block can be permanent. It’s conjecture at this stage.

I’m just more talking in what is innie Marks plan as they can seemingly remove him and Helly whenever they want and they have no use for them being severed anymore

Yes but that memory block if not removed creates two different consciousness.

Reintegration potentially or theoretically can bring the two memories and experiences together, but we haven’t seen it work yet. That then creates further dilemmas though.

Yeah for me though the talk of one personality being more dominant than the other and possibly taking over doesn’t make sense logically

Like the show, but hate the cliffhanger end of seasons without getting any real answers to anything, just more questions.

Might have missed this but why is there a innie helly?

I hope this show doesn’t turn into another lost.

I know people like it but personally was a mediocre episode for me. Wasn’t hitting the parts of the show that I have enjoyed most. End of S1 and start of S2 were peak Severance for me
Finally caught up now. I agree with this, from about the middle of season one to the middle of season two were the peak. I enjoyed the finale but the three episodes prior were a real drop in quality for me. I loved thinking through the metaphysics of having a conversation with another personality inhabiting the same body like Mark did.

They are clearly different people. But I wish Jugada was right. I think the show is very good, but it would have been even better if the innies were the same base personalities as the outies, just without all the shaping experiences, positive and negative, that influence their reactions and choices.

I'd find it really compelling if the show was telling us that Helly is who Helena would be if she actually had an average upbringing that wasn't f**ked up by wealth, power and a father who never loved her for who she is. But I felt like the show moved away from that idea in this season. Instead they were telling us the innies and outies have different base personalities and Helena is evil rather than misguided. That's still entertaining but less of a commentary on the human condition.

Like Succession 15 months ago when I binged it in 2 weeks, I have finally caught up on another mini binge

Like above it went off from mid season 1 up until the S2 episode when they went out in their Snow Expedition

The modern day equivalent of LOST
