SFL DIV3 2014

After seeing Carrum vs Black Rock today, with the Lions winning by 8 points, the addition of a few experienced Div 1 players will certainly hold them in good stead going into finals. Mouritz is a class act, and will win the league B&F.

As for the Jets, they look a much improved side who should be in the 5 come finals.

Black Rock had their noses ahead all day but Carrum were just able to just clip their heels and get in front by 2 kicks in junk time.

Jets as I thought are a much improved side and I think will be tough to beat this year, they were certainly tough to beat for us.

But i think the bigger news today came from seeing the results form some of the other games. Mt Waverley over Dandy by 130 points and Endeavour Hills knocking off Ashwood away from home!! Very interesting and unexpected results.

CPL falling over the line against Black Rock just goes to show that you can have 30 transfers from div 1 clubs but odds are 90% of them will be spuds, if they were really that good do you think the clubs would let them go? They are either players struggling to make 2's or decent 2's players struggling to make 1's.

You need quality not quantity like Mt Waverley, 4-5 solid pick ups from EFL, VAFA & Ovens/ Murray. So not suprised in the result between Dandy & Mt Waverley. 130 points is just taking the piss.

Endeavour Hills beating Ashwood could show more about the Magpies than the Falcons.

Hard to take anything from the Sandown- Lyndale game, they both should be around the 4-5th mark.

And the Sth Yarra- Hallam game is just irrelevant.

Only being round 1 its hard to Judge but my ladder prediction in any of these orders is-

1,2- Mt Waverley- CPL
3,4,5- Black Rock, Lyndale, Sandown,
6,7,8- Dandenong, Ashwood, Hallam
9,10- Endeavour Hills, Sth Yarra

Smart bloke, if we get rid of all irrelevant games and teams we'd have a 3 or 4 team comp, have an opinon but to say games and sides are irrelevent please!!! Get of your @rse and get around and look at sides before writing them off. First prize Turkey award for Round 1 goes to ....... localfoots.

Seem to agree with your ladder predictions however Endeavour Hills look as though they will be around the mark as well. Very tight 3-7 IMO.
Really looking forward to the next few rounds to see where teams are at.

Not sure if serious or taking the p***.

CPL had 5 transfers from SFL Div 1 clubs, 3 of them played in the 2012 SFL Div 1 Senior Grand Final.

Ladder Predictions:

1. CPL
2. Mt Waverly
3. Black Rock
4. Sandown
5. Lyndale
6. Dandenong
7. Endeavour Hills
8. South Yarra
9. Hallam
10. Ashwood

Still obviously very early in the season.....
Just wondering if Ashwood have lost many players?
Dandenong getting beaten by that margin... what's happening there?
Anyone at the Hills vs. Ashwood game who can offer a bit off in sight?
How was the game won? what players are looking the goods?

Was at the Sandown v Lyndale game, started off as a close encounter but Lyndale soon got control in the 2nd quarter and looked home from there, they are a very tight group and well coached team, a few lapses in discipline from both sides in the last quarter but overall a comfortable win for the Pumas.

Also went to the Hallam v South Yarra game (as a few would have), very close game probably only due to South Yarra's poor disposal around the ground, Hallam played good footy to be always in the hunt but with South Yarra's ruckman dominating and there back line running it out so easy, was only time till they put it on the scoreboard.

CPL had 5 transfers from SFL Div 1 clubs, 3 of them played in the 2012 SFL Div 1 Senior Grand Final.

So out of the 30 transfers, 3 were decent? My 90% spud estimate was pretty close then

Irrelevant where they all came from, with a transfer sheet like that you think you would be making some noise round 1.

Mt Waverley picked up less than 10, 5 of those played 1's Saturday afternoon in a team missing there FB M. Jefferies and 3 experienced key players and flogged a team you had finishing 2nd this year by 130 points.

Rofl.

I'm not a supporter of Carrum, but I know the local footy scene well, I think you need a bit of educating..............

Lets see....

Cliff Aikman: Mulgrave (EFL Div 2), mostly a twos player.
Chris Coleman: NOBS (VAFA C Grade), 1 game last year.
Corey Cox: Albert Park (VAFA D3 (Essentially F grade).
Earle Thomas: Old Ivanhoe, no registered games.
Richard Mathers: Old Haileybury (VAFA B Grade): 12 games in the reserves last year.

and the list goes on...........

I'll give you one name from CPL, help me out a bit, im unsure of your criteria:

Chris Mouritz: (St Bedes Mentone (A Grade VAFA)/Chelsea Heights (SFL Div 1)):

VAFA A Grade Premiership, VAFA B Grade Premiership, VAFA Senior State Rep...........

Here's another little snippet, this was done on the SFL website last year, for the top 50 players in the entire league:

11

Rhett Moor

(Chelsea Heights)

Moor has provided Chelsea Heights with sterling service since crossing from local rival Edi-Asp alongside Trent Downie a few seasons ago. Rarely beaten down back, the strong-bodied key defender is the rock that the Demons have built their back half around. With a bevvy of quality key forwards in the competition, Moor faces the biggest challenges week in, week out. And typically he comes up trumps. Edi-Asp premiership player and MPNFL and SFL interleague representative.

He was named the #1 defender in the entire SFL in those articles, and the third best tall behind Andy Gilbert and Luke James in that article....................

What were you saying about 2's players and hacks again?

Your just digging a deeper hole mate, with players like that you would think you'd pump a team like Black Rock?

Cory Cox? Cliff Aikman? Earle Thomas? Chris Coleman? None of these players played in the Mt Waverley side on Saturday and Chris Coleman was on the transfer sheet to leave Mt Waverley.

R. Mathers is a solid pick up and should boulster there midfield with B. Stacey & J. Dunn/ I. Taylor will be massive for there forward line and T. Patrick will rebound across half back. Most of them are coming from Div 1/2 EFL VAFA and Ovens & Murray. Division 3 SFL will be a walk in the park.

Mount Waverley will NOT lose a game this year. I can tell you now, they will smash Carrum just like Dandenong, and the rest of the league don't even come into consideration. Hand them the cup now.

FYI.. just to educate you a bit Sphynx:

(IN) Cliff Aikman: Mulgrave (EFL Div 2), mostly a twos player.
- Very good player. Mulgrave were disappointed to see him go. But injuries have held him back. Has a lot of mates at Mt Waverley, and wants to play with his brother. Might start off playing 3's as he has only been to 1 or 2 training sessions and did not partake in our one and only practice match or Round 1 match. But if his body holds up.. can see him easily becoming a regular 1's player.
(OUT) Chris Coleman: NOBS (VAFA C Grade), 1 game last year.
- Will be sorely missed. Besides being a much loved guy around the club, was a very good intercept mark at half back in our 1's.
(OUT) Corey Cox: Albert Park (VAFA D3 (Essentially F grade).
- very fit & built guy, but hasn't played with us for a few seasons. Could've been a regular senior player if he fixed his disposal, but was a very good 2's player at a minimum.
(OUT) Earle Thomas: Old Ivanhoe, no registered games.
- same as above. Is very fit and built. Could've been a regular 1's player (did play a few games), but didn't have the commitment and just wanted to have a casual kick on a saturday either in the 2's or 3's (barely trained). But hasn't played for us in a few seasons either.
(IN) Richard Mathers: Old Haileybury (VAFA B Grade): 12 games in the reserves last year.
- Injury held this guy back last year at OH. All reports was a regular 1's player when 100%. He injured himself again during preseason and wasn't expected to play RD1. But recovered enough to get picked, wasn't 100% against Dandy but still did pretty well. I'm excited to see how he goes when 100%.

We're quite happy with the rest of the INS for this season.. but as well know... it's early days... injury & form can hurt any side during the season...

My money is still on CPL to be the top side this season based on the quality recruits that's been reported.

R. Mathers - I know a few of the boys around OH and watched him play a couple of times last year, thought he was very handy. Also heard he was selected in the 1's most weeks but refused to play because he was getting limited has game time.

Do you realise how easy it is to call your bullshit in the modern age?

Stacey played 1 game last year in the seniors, the rest in the reserves.
Taylor again, played the whole year in the twos for a grand total of 8 goals in EFL Div 2 reserves.

You bagged the shit out of Nos_4r2 for supposedly recruiting reserve players (which CPL clearly haven't) when Mt Waverley have done exactly that.

Mt Waverley have targeted guys on the fringes in two bloody good divisions of one of the best comps in Melbourne, which is a great strategy for this level of footy.................

But don't come on here all high and mighty like you've just signed 5 ex-AFL stars.........

As for making a statement in Rnd 1? Did you see the bests in the Carrum game? Mouritz, Moor, Barr, Dalton, March etc all weren't on it, which is an indication that they still were able to get the job done, but clearly not firing on all cylinders.

3 weeks ago I watched the above blokes play well together................ they beat one of the favorites for the Div 2 flag pretty comfortably.......

And I wouldn't be underselling Black Rock, they will be top 4 this year.

Cause making grand finals has worked well for them in the past maybe so...winning on the other hand.

Keep it in your pants.
