Has anyone ever met this kid.

I'll tell you that if you have you might have noticed something about him, he is extremly skinny and for a footballer I have worries that he wont be able to put on much weight to get to the AFL level.

I know that the Tiges have drafted skinny players before ie: JON and Meyer, but Edwards looks something like an Ethiopian kid or something.

Doesn't anyone tell the young kids in footy a year or two before they turn 18 to start bulking up in case they are going to be in a footy side, no wonder there were so many injuries to first year players this year, it's because their bodies are so under developed that they cant get bumped without feeling it for months after.

when your born your small and as you get older you grow bigger.

why do people like yourself have absolutely no grasp on this concept?

:) Well Heartbreak Kid, remember a guy called Leon Cameron who gave the Tigers excellent service after crossing from the Bulldogs. Skinny as a rake when he arrived at the Western Oval and was so for a long period early on. He never became what you would term an Adonis but he did manage to etch out a long career.
Father of our own Shane Tuck - Michael. Arrived at Glenferrie weighing 55kg dripping wet. Didn't actually get a lot bigger either. At last count he had 400 games to his credit.
My point, there is no exact mould for what an AFL player should be, nor does a specific shape or weight determine success.

And blxx makes a valid point - players, like all humans, grow as they get older. Chris Grant was a stick figure when he first took the field for the Bulldogs. A few pre-seasons later, he was A MAN! Edwards will be no different.

From all reports and training reports I have seen on different sites there are a lot of people really impressed with this kid. Some even go so far as to say he will play quite a few senior games this year. This might be a little optimistic but he does sound an exciting prospect.

Evidently he can run all day. One of the complaints about him is that he runs too much and sometimes arrives late at a contest because he tries to get to EVERY contest. Once he gets a bit more experience he'll learn where to be.

It's ok to be skinny when you are young, and not everyone needs to be built like a brick s**thouse.

shocking decision to draft him, nothing to do with his weight just that quality big men still available and because we got riewoldt they thought we need an opposite which was crap

ive seen a bit of him and he's a dead ringer for davey who needed heaps of vfl time so its going to take a while

Matty Lappin is still bloody skinny at 30 and he's a handy player... at times.

Give the kid a couple of years before we jump on his back.

Man, you carry so much angst around with you.

So why was it a shocking decision to draft him? If he turns out to be 80% of what Aaron Davey is, then I'll be happy. Couldn't care less if it take four years.
Sorry, but you've confused me with what you said. You say it's a shocking decision, but in the next breath you say it will take a while, which suggests to me that you think he has the goods to eventually make it.
As Pauline would say, 'Please explain'.

I still haven't worked you out. I disagree with so much that you say and at times you do sound like a troll posing as a Richmond supporter (this has been said by others). But there is this nagging doubt that you are not a troll and actually believe what you are saying.

You certainly are a conundrum.

Actually, what does PLSC stand for?

PLSC = Pathetic Little Skinny C0<k

its something his (now ex) girlfriend gifted him after the first time she let him near her panties - it shattered the boys confidence no ends. what really hurt though was when him mum started to write PLSC on the inside on his he-man undies!!
thats why he has now vowed to become a "never nude"...

Lmao at Carlton still in your profile Astro.....

twas classic the days where you copped some solid abuse for supporting two clubs.

..... So why do you follow Carlton again? :D

family reason - and anyway, after going for richmond for the last 20+ years, barracking for carlton these days is a piece of piss!

Why still in your profile then? :o

Also if Richmond were the more unsuccessful team in the past 2-3 years, would you be saying the same?

I know you guys are worried about him, nut trust me you have a beauty here. Shane can really play footy, for someone of his size he is tough and hard at it, also extremely quick. Last season he played plenty of SANFL footy against grown men, laid soem really hard tackles, took some big hits and you know what even managed to end up in the best players quite a few times. He will play 5-10 games this year because he is ready. I dont think he has even turned 18 yet as he?

its still in my profile because i still am a member to both clubs

and yes - why on earth would that change a thing? going for richmond over the past 20 years, i have copped more stick than a naked man scaling a fig!

astro toby lol what a muppet

i dont care if people think im a troll i just say what i think doesnt mean i disagree with everything just most things

shane edwards will be a good player just didnt think we need him, he's a bit of cream to add to a good side not a player you can build a base around

davey is good because he was a rookie like pearce not 2nd round draft pick in the best draft ever, understand?

atleast edwards will make sure krak isnt in the best 22 which is a good thing

lol at the lappin comment

He is listed as this

Height 179.6cm

Weight: 68.6kg

For an 18 y.o. kid who has yet to do a pre-season I would think that this is a fairly normal ratio. He is relatively short for this era.

I find a good yardstick is 100 difference so he will need to be 79.6 kg to be at true AFL standard( not including experience/footy smarts).

I would figure that he could probably put this on in 3 pre-seasons including this one. That makes it his third year in 2009. Not out of the ordinary I wouldn't have thought.

The type of player he is proves he will play a few games this season. Got freakish skills which will allow him to develop up the HF asap :thumbsu:

Not so much his body size. He is bigger than Meyer and JON, and they have played a handfull of games.

Peterson's skinny legs I am more worried about. Ditto to JON. :o

if i'm a muppet, then you are a muppets vagina

Lappin has been an excellent player who made AA once and was unlucky 2-3 times not to make it again. there was a time there a few years ago Richmond offered him big $$$ to come over, but he stayed at the blues - so i would have to say that you are maybe a little too busy checking out what hawthorns doing to have noticed any of that.

Davey would happily be any clubs 2nd round pick in hindsight, again maybe you have been too busy pulling your PLSC over Lance Franklin or Josh Thurgood to have noticed this..

There is one thing AFL teams need to win grand finals
PLAYERS WITH CLASS !!!
And you need several

I believe Terry Wallace is going to hand the bulldogs a grand final on a platter because of his recruiting, and I think in Deledio, Tambling, Meyer, Polo, JON, Hughes, Casserley, Young Rooey, Connors, and EDWARDS!!!
he is doing the same for the mighty tigers.

I have watched Edwards play and he has class!!!

It was a great decision to draft him, He would be playing for the Crows with pick 14 if Sellar hadn't have been available!

I agree with everyone saying that Edwards is small mostly because he is 18 years old, but didn't anyone ever tell him a year or so ago to start bulking up a bit in order to slip right into footy.

I had a dinner with TW and all of the other first year players on Monday and even TW said that the young kids coming up today aren't being told early enough to start getting ready for a possible life in the AFL.

I would have thought that the top 30 or so prospects would be told to start training harder and eating more, but I guess some players will always be skinny and some wont.
