There is one thing AFL teams need to win grand finals
PLAYERS WITH CLASS !!!
And you need several

I believe Terry Wallace is going to hand the bulldogs a grand final on a platter because of his recruiting, and I think in Deledio, Tambling, Meyer, Polo, JON, Hughes, Casserley, Young Rooey, Connors, and EDWARDS!!!
he is doing the same for the mighty tigers.

I have watched Edwards play and he has class!!!

It was a great decision to draft him, He would be playing for the Crows with pick 14 if Sellar hadn't have been available!

i agree totally with that. most forget that terry was coach and cheif decision maker in regards to recruiting when all these young, running players were drafted

its alright to have judd and goodes winning medals but i love these guys the most they make the BASE of a premiership team, all those guys in your list have a combined weight of a wet towel

edwards is an adelaide boy so i guess he's going to the crows

they already have porplyzia and bernie vince coming through so i think they are pretty happy with sellar

im pretty sure adelaide strongly indicated they would have taken him if not for sellar. not just outsiders guessing.

Its a well known fact in footy circles that if Sellar wasnt available for the crows they would have picked Shane Edwards. Edwards will be a good player for us. People need to show patience. People should be looking at 2010-2011not 2007.

Jesus, 20011!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm 36 years of age. Since the age of 12 I have seen my team play in two finals series in the past two and half decades. Sorry, but I don't want to wait until 2011. I want finals and I god damn well want them now.

No what you mean tugga, but Im lucky first live AFL game , 1980 Grand Final.

Best introduction ever

Khan
My first live game was at Moorabin of all places. Stood on the terraces on a beer crate. Malthouse was playing for the Saints. My old man called him Micky ********house. 1977.
Sick of theyoung uns saying 'give it a few years'. Patience has run out and sick of all my mates giving me lip about our lack of success. Stuff the flag. I just wouldn't mind seeing my team in the odd finals game more than once a decade.

all im saying is that you dont mind if blokes need a bit of time but you can tell what kind of players they are going to be and why we need edwards i have no idea

He went to my son's High School here in Adelaide and is a great lad by all accounts, not that you'd care.

I think he'll be AFL-ready by the end of 2007/early 2008. He's the sort of kid that CAN gain weight and muscle as opposed to others that have been mentioned here that would still be skinny after a month of Maccas.

He'll do well for you, don't worry.

I agree with everyone saying that Edwards is small mostly because he is 18 years old, but didn't anyone ever tell him a year or so ago to start bulking up a bit in order to slip right into footy.

I had a dinner with TW and all of the other first year players on Monday and even TW said that the young kids coming up today aren't being told early enough to start getting ready for a possible life in the AFL.

I would have thought that the top 30 or so prospects would be told to start training harder and eating more, but I guess some players will always be skinny and some wont.

If your young and you bulk up too much, it can hinder your development rather then help it.
No need to worry about his weight just now

exactly!!!

recruiters dont want anything to do with vic metro boys because they are hard mofos who train to win and dont have the same potential as some twigs from sa or wa who take 1 big grab at the carnival and clock a good 20m sprint time at the camp

some people have no idea

Cheers dude. Thanks for the heads up. :thumbsu:

haha well done loser

can you tell me why we needed another young skinny flanker who needs time to develop?

id appreciate if you could answer the question instead of trying to gain e-cred

The reason why we drafted Edwards, is because TW is thinking about the game style that we want to develop over the next few years.
He wants a quick, highly skilled, classy football team and he believes that is the style of team that can win a grand final for us in the future.

In the last 20 years, we have never had a strategy of the type of football team we wanted over the next era, so we would make pragmatic drafting decisions on who they thought were good at the time. Most of these decisions were wrong hence our club being starved of success.

I feel very confident in TW's plan, and am pleased with virtually all of the recruiting decisions made since 2004 (and even some in 2003 before TW), when you understand the type of team he is trying to mould.

Your dead right there PLSC, we should be looking at only getting rock hard muscle bound seventeen year olds who can make an immediate impact at the highest level!

Why oh why Terry and Greg always go for these talented and skilled skinny kids is ludicrous

I think he might play a few games this year, and how well he plays will suprise alot of you.

It will vary from person to person but generally it's not considered a good idea to hit the weights too early.
Most bodies are still growing ( including bones) until the late teens and it's often best to wait until this has stopped before taking on too much in the gym. Otherwise you would probably get these kids pushing the weights at 12

Other people have answered your question for me, but I will reiterate for you.

We drafted a kid who we thought would fit our game plan. Fast & skillful. Many rated him top 10 material. We are building up a team that can run like the wind, and generally mark very well overhead. This plan may not work, but if it does it will take other teams years to catch up.

It might surprise you but most kids are skinny and need time to develop. In fact, I would say that the man-child types you seem to be advocating we draft often work out duds. This is because at junior level they are so much bigger than other kids they play against. Kind of like playing U-16's football when you were 17. But when they come up against grown men they no longer have that advantage.

I'd be more worried about drafting a kid that is already well built and needs no time to develop. We might have another Anthony Banik on our hands if that was the case.

There, I did it, without gaining any e-cred.

edwards is the kind of player who needs BIGGER bodies to protect him so he will play he's best footy, look at davey he has byron over he's shoulder all game and loves it

if you can tell me who we have please do
