Im worried Freo are going to snatch him away.![]()
Kersto was credited with 7 pressure acts. Our pressures acts were down across the board.1 tackle last night, 4 vs Suns.
Just waiting on winty to put the PAs up.
Thanks AM. 7 pressure acts is very good for a full-time forward. The third quarter was pretty skint for forward attacks and then Kersten went off in the 4th...Kersto was credited with 7 pressure acts. Our pressures acts were down across the board.
Have to disagree with my fellow Kersto praiser (Daz). Thought his efforts when he didn't have the ball were generally ordinary. Sort of reminiscent of his twos GF effort - or lack thereof. Somehow think there will be a word or two directed toward him this week about his work ethic.
That said, he's still on training wheels and there's a lot to like about him.

Well! When a key part of your repertoire is defensive pressure I'm not sure 7 is all that good considering his game time was 78%.Thanks AM. 7 pressure acts is very good for a full-time forward. The third quarter was pretty skint for forward attacks and then Kersten went off in the 4th...
Substituting him might have been a fitness issue- he has played very little footy this season- more likely structural, though- or perhaps he had a slight niggle and it was precautionary.
As you said, though, lots to like about him and it's early days. We're up to Game #2 now...
Hawkins is on around a 7 average (just on the stats that I have to hand- the bloody things are as rare as hens' teeth!). It appears that this is OK for their position/s or player type. I haven't checked what other big forwards from other teams are producing but I feel that the lack of defensive pressure from our bigger blokes at that end is why the MC seemed keen to be playing both Burbury and McCarthy up forward at the beginning of the season- because that's their specialty- tackle, tackle, tackle.Well! Doubt he'd have been substituted if the master and his apprentices were chuffed with his effort.
He's a work in progress and there will be much better times to come.
Hawk is a key position power forward more in the Lockett mold. Kersto is a quick mobile forward more in the Gunston mold. So far as that aspect of their game goes they really aren't comparable in my view.Hawkins is on around a 7 average (just on the stats that I have to hand- the bloody things are as rare as hens' teeth!). Re the substitution- of course not but, as I indicated, it could've been structural, fitness, etc. or a combination of all of these, just as much as it could've been form. He was good in the first Q, quieter in the 2nd, disappeared in the 3rd and.. off in the 4th.
I know the PAs aren't reliant on position entirely- for instance, Simpson has an average of 12 vs Big Hamish 8 in the stats I have. My point was that forwards- and players in the backline- maybe it's just the Cats forwards and defence personnel- have lower PAs than other positions.
I have no doubt they will try and we will need to be proactive and generous with our offer. He is OOC at years end but this is exactly why he did a 1 year deal for this year. He wanted opportunity and knew that whence it came he would do well (IMO) .
AFAIK, he is happy at Geelong, happy Geelong took him and gave him his shot but just wanted to play. Now he is healthy and he's getting a crack I think all is good. Id like to see a 3yr deal myself but Balme and Co should get this done…. and soon.
Id have more concern if its not done by seasons end…..

I'd suggest the powers-that-be see Kersto longer term more as a third forward option used mainly as a pocket/flanker than a key position player. Possibly one of the reasons the club is apparently looking to secure Frawley i.e to allow them the flexibility of using Taylor or Frawley as a key position forward should Vardy not come up.
You aint alone there my friend….I'm alone in this probably, but I don't want to see Taylor in the forward line ever really.
Not my preferred option either as I've posted before. Merely musing over the media speculation relating to the Frawley move and the possible reasons we are in the hunt for him.I'm alone in this probably, but I don't want to see Taylor in the forward line ever really.

The reality is we are very much dependent on Vards coming up next year as we don't have a second power forward ready to go. And this year has shown an over dependence on Hawk.
I suspect Taylor will be used occasionally in the forward half as he has in the past and that Frawley will re-sign with the Dees, in any event.
Correct, I was kind of hoping Vardy would be a good player in 2015.Even if Vardy comes up, he's not ready to go either. That's the problem I think few want to face. Least of all the club.

I don't see that as much as some people? shorter and heavier. I see him more a as Dunstall type or a Taylor Walker. Be OK if he could match him
more Darling/Fevola in my view. Gunston is like a considerably hotted-up version of Mitch Brown, tall agile and good below the knees.
Can't say I see much of a likeness to the way Dunstall played with either of them Turbo. All in the eye of the beholder I guess.I don't see that as much as some people? shorter and heavier. I see him more a as Dunstall type or a Taylor Walker. Be OK if he could match him

Think there's a lot in what appeared in the following piece.

I guess it's the sort of avatar most were expecting me to have!(Oh and than aviatar is very distracting Bobby)
That jumped out at me, too, Partridge. Kersten is a year and a half younger than Gunston, 2 years behind in his development but 3 full seasons behind in games. That's a lot of games to make up to get to Gunston's level of experience- particularly as I think he'll be "managed" this season. Both from Sandringham too apparently. Amazing to think one has played 69 games and one 13 (don't know anything of Gunston's injury history if any).
I wasn't expecting you to be able to create something like that, boobsie- that one is pure BobbyI guess it's the sort of avatar most were expecting me to have!

That's a good point, mb. He'd need to go for a bit of a run now and then to increase his fitness, though, which being kept 100% at home wouldn't do. We know that both can dob a goal from outside the 50 so it wouldn't hurt to have Tomahawk grabbing the ball well up the field then kicking the long one over to SK for the 50m goal. In fact, I can see it in my mind now....I think given Hawkins' ability they should keep Shane at home a bit. Have him playing out of the goal square. Ease him in a bit. Rather than smashing him for a let and letting him get tired.

My Gifs are awesome!I wasn't expecting you to be able to create something like that, boobsie- that one is pure Bobby![]()
