Player Watch Shane McAdam

We (AFC) drafted Geddes from country Victoria, not Sturt. He was allocated to us (Sturt) midseason because we were bottom.

Worked out ok for the Blues!
I thought that also but G Cornes said something different to that the other day, maybe it’s senility.....on his part.

Shane had a very promising and solid first year in the SANFL with Sturt and likely did everything asked and expected of him and possibly more, but dominated....please.
I’ve been at every game McAdam played and this is a great example of how much shit is dribbled out of Manure’s mouth and the media in general.
He wouldn’t have one f***ing idea how McAdam has gone this year let alone in the SANFL as a comparative whole.

I suspect you are one of the few on here who has actually seen him play!

What do you think we should expect from him next year?

Loved his highlights reel --- strong marking on a lead with hanger-capability, prepared to run-on at every opportunity, great evasive skills and goal sense, and looks like a natural footballer.
Reminded me of, dare I say it, McLeod's silky, fluid movement.

Jeez, I hope he comes on from this pre-season and achieves his potential. Future gun if he avoids his fave foods and applies himself.

I miss Jaenschy
My favourite Jaenschy moment in the 2009 Prelim final, jumping up and down waving his arms around trying to get Coad’s attention, not fully visible in this clip (scroll to 2.11) how many times he was jumping around like a peanut. I still laugh at it now.

TBH I don’t know. I’m very measured with mature aged recruits. He’s got a lot of very good attributes to do well, with a good pre season he’s a turn key go dynamic forward but he needs to make the most of his opportunities. I think with Eddie and Mattner around him it’s a good start.

This ....plus a full time AFL environment will help ....but after a year in the bush, a year in Div 3 Amateurs ......his fitness would be at about the same as an U18 draftee

For all those saying McAdam didn't have as good a season as Ryan, which he didn't, but this was his first season in anywhere near close to the correct state for elite footy, so imagine he had one more year in SANFL next year and maintained or improved his conditioning and training, what output do you think he might've had and then lets say he got drafted the year after that, where do you think he might have gone?

For me I'd be tipping 40-50 goals in SANFL and somewhere between 20-30 in the draft.

I think you’d be surprised with his fitness, Mattner ran a tight ship at Sturt and doesn’t suffer fools or laziness. Apart from a hamstring mid way through the season he never struggled to play out a game strongly and you can see his work rate in the highlights posted earlier.

He appears to be fairly athletically gifted and could be a natural aerobic athlete too. Some people can build a fitness base super quickly.

Yes but with respect ...AFL fitness levels are very different to SANFL .....much more ground to cover, when you run up to wings to defend & then have to scamper back

Looks like a cross between Tom Lynch and Mitch McGovern.

He's a character, we need more of that.

In what way?
Type of player.

Elite pace, strong overhead, defensive pressure (tackling and perceived pressure), crumbing ability and goal sense. The tools (even the size) and the type of footballer that McAdam is, there are some real similarities between the two players.

Mind you, I don't think there are many great tacklers around as Charlie. He is a tackling machine in terms of technique, the tackles just stick.
