Well done Wakes. I'm not sure why people think he wasn't worthy of a spot on the list this year. He was always there as a backup, and tonight he showed why. His role this year was to guide the young defenders with Williamstown, and step up if to the seniors only if we were undermanned, as he did tonight. Who knows, maybe Presti will take on that role in a year or two.

He has always cultivated excellent facial hair. It is not quite a beard , it's often clipped to a length giving him maximum coverage , but without encumbering his facial area.

I was at the game last night behind the stick and Wakelin and Goldsack both had brilliant nights.

Wakelin played 10 metres in front of hall and totally shut him down, but also created attacking play afterwards.
A supreme performance.

Goldsack turned Michael Ologlin or however ya spell it inside out a few times until Roos ended up making a change and put goodes down there who was also innefective.

Well done Wakelin and Goldsack....great game.

I wont even start on Daisy's goal of the year from the pocket!

Wakes played his best game in 2 years. Barry has had it and needs to go play in the masters. ever since the grand final 2006 his never gotten over it.

Great game by Wakes. After reading the article in the paper yesterday i love him even more. For those who didn't see it he said he was going to retire at the end of last year but hung around for one more just in case we needed him. He was happy to play at Williamstown for most of the year but if something like last night came up and we needed a big key defender he will be there. Boy was he there last night. Great club man maybe Richmond should take a look at how its done.

Once again, I haven't seen the game, however, all reports show him as best on ground.

I think this once again comes down to the start of the year...and on this forum, there weren't many who agreed with me on Wakes. I got everything thrown at me for sticking up for him, or, simply appreciating him and not many would agree.

Last year, Wakes played some very good footy...but he really only played very few full games. A couple games he was off early injured...late withdraw due to team balance...quite strange for a man who came top 3 in the Copeland Trophy a year before.

It just shows our depth though...on both sides of the scale...youth (Goldsack) and experience (Wakelin)...they aren't in our best 18 most would say (let alone 22), yet they have shown enough.

We're pretty fond of him up here....
He was one...if not the nicest of the team to our little 5 year old fan while they were in Mackay..
And he was awesome last night!

Had plenty of support from Heath Shaw, Nick Maxwell and Tyson Goldsack, but he stood up when he was needed and that's all you can ask of a veteran, who is a fill in player these days. By no means he was the best, but I won't go ape at you either if you disagree. We don't always agree, that's the beauty of a forum.

I wonder how many in the media are going to admit they jumped the gun with the labelling our backline depleted it may not have had the experience that it normally does, but it stood up well against the Swans. Wakelin was fantastic, as were the rest of the guys down back.

Some of these players who are considered back ups are really causing some much needed headaches to the selection panel.

I've always been happy having Wakes on the list for depth, and last night he stood up and did a sterling job on Barry Hall. No doubt he was aided by Hall's lack of form and Sydney's appalling kicking inside 50, but Wakes did everything that we could have asked him to do.

Great job, great clubman.

Wakes was excellent and I love him, but I reckon my grandmother could hold Hall to 2 goals and a few kicks the way he is playing at the moment!
