Absolutely shattered.

Should have been a comfortable 2-3 goal win tonight minimum, we managed to beat Geelong in the midfield in the second half convincingly but couldn't take any opportunities we gave ourselves. In the last quarter alone Mayne missed two sitters, Pavlich missed a sitter, Walters juggled a ball through the goals that would have resulted in a goal. In the 3rd McPhee missed a couple going for 50m+ goals, Crowley missed a running goal sitter and Hill missed a very easy running kick for goal (by his standards anyway). Suban also missed a sitter in the 3rd or 4th. Basically we were a better team on the night but our kicking cost us, reminds me of the days of old.

Bad kicking = bad football

Until we can play pav forward we will struggle

Disappointing that we couldn't win it, but you can tell we just haven't switched on yet this season. Everything is basically there, but we lack the killer instinct.

So damn frustrated.

I was ropeable after Walters juggled through that pav goal resulting in a behind. Yeah he's a young bloke but it was damn selfish, there was nobody near him and ball was sailing through the middle with ease. Just a poor, poor decision. But it was the terrible kicking collectively that did it, it saps everyone's energy when we miss soda after soda.

Yeah I'm shattered we lost, but really, to put it into perspective we won a game we should have lost last week, and lost a game we should have won this week. 1-1 is about where we are at.

Positives are there I guess, the team performance bar the kicking for goal was hugely improved for the most part, pressure back up

Thought we easily had the better of the second half, particularly the 3rd. Just couldn't kick goals. Going the other way, Chapman & Bartel and these types just took their chances.

We got the ball in there easy enough and got some decent opportunities

Allowed Geelong too much run through the midfield, while we had to work hard to get it through to our forward line

Thing is, we played sh*t as anything and only lost by 11 point. maybe our sh*t football is better than it has been in previous years?

If we played like that in 2008/2009 we'd be raving on about positives and upside - end of the day we were crap and got punished for it

I still think Harves is priming the squad for the second half of the season and the run in to the finals - I think I'll wait before the first bye before I pass any rash judgment

couldnt tell from where i was sitting but from my angle it looked like walters grabbed it over the line??
Still terrible decision to go for it.

But even more unforgiveable than that is all the easy set shots we missed.

So far 1 of my concerns going into season looks like reality.
I was worried we would get ahead of ourselves an expect to be top 8 again.
Forgetting to do all the hard work an put in the massive effort we did last year to get there.

When they realised game was slipping away they would flick the switch an put in the effort required.
An we looked much better

Positive is if we can get their minds on the job at hand that they cant just save their best for towards end of season.
It needs to be every week starting right now.

Am I the only one that thought we played well. For heck sake we got 28 scoring shots and outplayed them in the second half. Our pressure was great and we ran it off half back well. They just had more polish going forward. We got our hands on the footy plenty of times. Just one thing let us down, goal-kicking. Other then that, it was a solid performance. But like others i am very disappointed nevertheless.

cut walters some slack, compared with some of the guys he had a great night. He made a call, it didnt work out. He wasnt selfish or stupid, Ive been in those situations before, you always think you're closer to the post than you are and it looked to be reasonably tight anyway. If he had left it and it had brushed the post everyone would have been livid anyway.

Yeah, but we lost.

Hmmm... But - we lost.

Our pressure was great and we ran it off half back well.

But we lost.

They just had more polish going forward.

Well that certainly helps...

We got our hands on the footy plenty of times.

But we still lost.

Just one thing let us down, goal-kicking. Other then that, it was a solid performance.

Maybe, but we lost.

But like others i am very disappointed nevertheless.

Yeah, pretty disappointed that we didn't win given how great we were... :(

No I thought we were pretty good. We were always going to start this year a bit slow. Cats are quality and we could have put them away. Ibbo, Barlow, Hayden, Mz to come in. We should have a decent year.

Great to see Hilly finally clunk a few marks. He's been threatening to for a while. He outmarked Harry Taylor tonight!

Yeah Hilly worked into it after an especially un-Hill like clanger that went OOTF. The cats took their chances and switched into space particularly well, while we kicked a lot of points and lost because of it. Thread title matches how i felt on the siren

I'm irritated rather than shattered. All the ****ing around in the forward line really gives me the shits. Too much reliance on jagged goals not enough solid, repeatable goal scoring plays.

I'm going to take this season one game at a time. I'm a bit disappointed, but not overly. They were better than us at critical moments, and that was all it was. They are a very good team, but I can tell Harv's wasn't happy and watching Ryhs do full sprints end to end after the match was interesting.
Our biggest problems will be taking on Adelaide after a break, and then taking on the kangas after a break in the next two weeks.
Some of our boys need to work harder !

Walter incident - this happened right in front of me. It was either a goal (ie. Walter marked it over the line) or a mark (ie. Walter marked it in front of the line). The goal umpire was incorrect, and should be dropped for such a ridiculous mistake.

McPhee - I am not one to get angry with single players, but you can **** off back to Essendon. How dare you allow an opposition player to get the footy right in front of you, then just casually take a stroll while he runs off towards goal. If my apple didn't cost so much, I would've ditched it at your head.

Transperth - You can suck my 1 inch.

I am completely shattered still.

I will be p*ssed if Johnson ever plays another game for Freo again, he is disgraceful.

Walters made a complete selfish decision going for the mark and I don't care what anyone says. We will not be successful as a club until the players put the team game above their own. I believe Keplar made a similar mistake last week against Brisbane.

Also, just because a player is 7 foot doesn't mean you can hang off him without giving away a free kick.

I said to my fiancee' walking out, all summer I was hanging for the football to start yet not once during that period did I feel as shattered as I did tonight. I love my footy but hate it oh so much.

^^^ I so agree. To make matters worse, I shouldn't have even been there. I pretty much sped through my work today (or clients refused showers etc) and finished early enough to go. Should not have bothered.

Two things cost us today:

1. Inaccurate kicking for goal. I guess it was just one of these days but unfortunately opposition was Geelong rather than one of the weaker teams.
2. Inability to shut down the corridor soon enough on too many ocassions.

Although it was very disappointing to lose I liked our endaveour all night.

I think we still have a number of players underdone and there is a lot of improvement in them. The disappointing thing about tonight was not just the missed shots at goal but the poor decision making and turnovers around the ground. We let the Geelong midfielders get free too often without pressure. I would like to know who was playing on Varcoe as he did as he liked tonight.
