AFL Cairns' connections with State League Club Morningside are prevelent everywhere with the appointment of past Morningside player Shaun Valenta as Coach of the Port Douglas Crocs for 2009.

Valenta, a 3 time premiership and best and fairest player with Morningside in the AFL Queensland premier competition, has spent a few years away from the game of late, but is keen to get back into coaching. He coached Morningside Reserves to a Premiership in 2000 and was Assistant Coach to the Senior team for two seasons.

At 43 years of age, the Port Douglas based greenkeeper is commited to ensuring the Crocs finish as high or higher in the AFL Cairns competition in 2009.

Port Douglas has turned to the past to restore hope for the future by appointing 2005 premiership-winning coach Andy Viola to lead the club in next year's AFL Cairns competition. Viola takes over from 2009 coach Shaun Valenta, who did not reapply for the position.
