Stat over-generalises in his post to an extent. There is a lot of league support everywhere in Sydney including the East and North, just not as one-eyed, plentiful or pronounced as the West and South. The socioeconomic reasons are obvious with rugby being a mainstay of private schools and league far less so (and each sport's strongholds are accordingly set).

Maybe I'm overgeneralising, but literally none of my friends from North or East like League - includes people from a number of GPS/other schools, so not just Grammar. The only people I know who like League live out West. Maybe I just haven't met the right people, but meh.

With this being a GWS home game, the many dual team members on here will be wearing their GWS outfits for this game.
That should be enough 'Swans' help to please Sheedy.

I already have had enough of this mob & the amount of threads about them on the Swans forum & we haven't even played a game yet.

Yeah.......yeah...............I know..................it's a public forum & anyone can have their opinion.

So my opinion is ......................ban anything GWS on here!!
No offence to anyone intended!

I hate all other teams the same!!

East people like NRL... not just Manly.

Careful with the nasty words - I remember Simon Minton-Connell at full forward, and I supported Collingwood before I moved to Sydney and realised I cheered harder for the red and white.

I was there when Lockett broke Peter Caven's jaw, and then beat Sydney off his own boot, and I was there when the pig got loosed on the ground, and I saw the flag in '05 from a bar in Cronulla.

I admire the Swans, and think that the club has had an amazing run of success since the dark days of 1992-3. In an era of a draft and a salary cap, being able to field competitive teams year after year is a credit to the culture that Barassi and Roos built ... but, now, Im barracking harder for GWS than for Sydney and the cycle begins again.

Im looking forward to the game, and Im looking forward to building a rivalry.

Assuming Folau plays in round 1, who do you think Sydney will put on him ?

So what this really means is this is the second time you've left your team for a fresher model.

I pity your wife.

Not in my experience. Rugby Union maybe, but certainly not League. Unless you mean the south-east like Maroubra, in which case I'd agree with you.

Reading an article yesterday says we're focused on GWS..
"Everything we do is about round one, every session we do and all the practice matches we do will be gearing us for GWS round one". Goodes.

Apart from the fact it's the first proper game, we shouldn't be focusing on GWS. Shouldn't we be focusing on the better, harder to beat top teams, not the likely worst, bottom team? If it's just marketing spin, fair enough.
Another article today highlights the 'rivalry' with Collingwood. We've lost to them the last 10 times! That should be the focus.

I thought there were two messages in what Goodes said.

Firstly our focus is on round 1, the start of the season.
Training sessions, practice matches, NAB Cup are all geared to being fit & ready for the start of the season proper (irrespective of who we play)

Secondly I think given we do play GWS first up, in a stand alone game. there was a fair bit of marketing hype as well.
