Kevin Sheedy is narrow minded, arrogant and foolish.

Good old Sheeds clearly believes that the Melbourne culture embedded with the Aussie Rules brand of footy is supreme. While this kind of attitude sits fine with footy loving Vics, to outsiders it can easily be perceived as arrogant.

The problem is, Sheedy has lived in Melbourne and breathed Aussie Rules his entire life. He know's no different! His beliefs and attitude have probably never been seriously challenged. Melbourne, like no other city, is immersed in its home grown game.

While I believe his heart is in the right place with respect to promoting Aussie Rules, Kevin Sheedy's recent comments through the media only serve to damage the image and potential growth of the game in traditionally non AFL states.

To suggest the Gold Coast is in need of a "soul" and an AFL club is not the most intelligent way to promote the game in the region. Considering that this area of the country is evenly divided between Aussie Rules and other codes, comments in this vein are irresponsible coming from a coach of such a high profile club. Come on Sheeds, do you really think the Gold Coast community will warm to your beloved game when you tell them their place has no soul?

Time to broaden your horizons Kevin. Consider the fact that not everyone is from Melbourne and the possiblity that people may be exposed to more than one code. Not every one will naturally take to game as you would expect them to. Try an approach that treats communities with respect and nurture the game rather than impose it.

I would suggest that Sheeds has seen more of the world than you ever will;) so he would hardly need to broaden his horizons.
Some people from the Coast need to get out and have a look at the place from the outside , i have a number of relatives in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast and they wont have a bar of the Goldy. I get to Queensland 4 or 5 times a year as well and i dont go there either . Most poeple i know up that way are less than complimtray about it.
Anyway there is not much point getting wound up by Sheeds comments , he has a strange way of going about things most of the time;)

I saw the press conference in full and the reference you speak of. It was completely taken out of context and the moronic Mark Robinson pretending to be a serious journalist ran with the story of "Upset locals". In fact the story run in the Herald sun and on news.com.au is written as if fact, locals were upset...YET quotes no gold coast locals or officials for that matter. Interesting direction of journalism he takes. Running stories like this are in the vein of Today Tonight stuff. Take something small out of context, beat up the story, run it, then wait for the sheep to baa.

You my friend, go baa.

You are saying BAA as well by addressing this issue instead of the way Sheedys team performed. I would like him to lay off the extra curricular stuff a bit. Though I am grumpy we lost last night:mad:
