I know a few people have wished Shirls well on his 150, but as everyone else seems to get a thread of their own for a milestone, I thought I'd start one for Rob.
150 games of AFL footy. Great milestone and great achievement for one of the most unfairly maligned players on this board. He has been a great asset to the Adelaide Crows and I salute him. :thumbsu:

Good on you, Rob. You've worked hard for this and deserve some time in the sun.

I'm glad you remember the Whyalla connection. We are proud of you.

The novelty of one of our toughest players being called Shirley has not worn off even after 150 games.
Congratulations Shirls! Very much looking forward to him making Judd look pretty ordinary yet again in Round 22 :thumbsu:

This is without a doubt hard earned milestone!

Its a credit to Shirls for reaching 150 AFL games. He was drafted, then delisted, then picked up again and has become one of the best taggers in the AFL. :thumbsu:

Only the fourteenth Crow to reach 150 games. Well done Robet you have been a fine and honourable servant to the AFC. Your committment and effort could never be questioned.

Anyone else call him Laverne? Or is it just me.

cant sum that up much better, it would be been a long road for him to get to 150

You've got to love any player that squeezes the maximum from the talents they started with. And I read somewhere he's close to 100 senior games in the SANFL, too? That's a pretty fair career by any standards.

Congrats to Rob. He is a terrific bloke and I have great respect for him. I mentioned in another thread that he isn't a great player, hell he probably isn't even a good player, but to play 150 games shows you just how hard he has worked and how determined he is. He deserves 100 times the credit of someone like Farmer or Headland. I'd take a Shirley on my team over one of those any day.

For what its worth Rob's dad was a handy footballer too... and Rob comes from an impressive Country team (North Whyalla).
North Whyalla boasts people like Neil Kerley (Capt coach of 2 premierships at the age of 19!), Barrie and Rodney Robran, Robert Pyman and Levi Greenwood (current Kangaroo) to name but a few!!

Well done Shirls!

Did you ever think that might be why he's so tough? Imagine being called 'Shirley' and being brought up in Whyalla?

My brother went to school with him came through the catholic education system in Whyalla, so 'shirley' and catholic hmmm:p

Anyway congrats Rob on 150 games:thumbsu:

Yes his old man had a very good career at North Whyalla, fairly sure his Dad is still in Whyalla, my mother was luckiy enough to goto Whyalla High with Barry Robran, and always remembers him being very talented back then and reakons she never didnt see him not kicking a footy about.

I was more a Roopena fan myself, never played footy in Whyalla though got caught up in the soccer with Westlands United.

Who are these people that apparently dont rate him :p

All jokes aside well done Rob

I was gonna start this thread but thought Id leave it to someone with dignity.;)
Lets fill this thread with positives instead of negatives.

His pure guts and courage to crunch onto a ball under the pack and dish it out to the blond-set of the wannabees of the past few seasons rings my bells.:thumbsu:

How many hardballs have you all won?
Lassies excluded:D

Matthew Connell, Peter Vardy, Matthew Liptak, Simon Tregenza, David Pittman, Kris Massie, Matthew Bode, Mark Stevens, Kym Koster, Matthew Robran, Peter Caven, Chris McDermott, Rhett Biglands. Shirley didn't have the talent of any of these names but he's played more games than any of them and he can be forever proud of that fact. He's been under scrutiny for his entire career and has still forged a legacy to be absolutely proud of.

Bravo, Rob! :):thumbsu:

Good on Shirls on his 150th, a true hard worker and deserved every bit of reaching that milestone. :thumbsu:

Well done Rob. A fantastic effort from someone who always gives 110% - and one of the nicest blokes in the game.

Don't be too quick to write him off for next week - they're hopefull he'll come up.
