Rules Shortening the duration of AFL games

Dave Matthews wants the length of the game to be shortened but it seems the broadcasters don’t want it to happen.

“He feels that two and a half minutes on average this year the games are going longer than ever before — it is too long, Dave wants them shorter and he’s lobbying that with the AFL.”

Caroline Wilson added: “How did that go down with the AFL? I’m sure that Fox Footy and Channel 7 wouldn’t be thrilled about that.”

Maybe focus on playing more games in Western Sydney, Dave.

Or the simple solution, remove ruck nominations, remove warnings for 6/6/6 infractions, be realistic with the 30 sec shot clock on players taking their full time from 60m out, pay HTB correctly to reduce congestion.

Bam, there’s your 2-3 minutes a quarter saved from rubbish rules they’ve implemented the last 5+ years.

Footy in 2025 is completely bonkers, FFS they play a game of keeping's off and now they want to shorten that? I bet they won't reduce the price of admission or the cost of a pie if they do?
