If we had marked every uncontested mark, if we had kicked every unpressured kick straight, if we had laid every regulation tackle, if we had kicked every free kick to a contest that was to our advantage or at the very least neutral, if we had spotted up every player who was free in acres of space in the forward line ... and then lost by four points because of crap umpiring, then yeah, I reckon Buckley should go totally beast mode postal.

But we were a long, long, long way off any of that.

No way would I want any player to think that the reason we lost that game was because of the umpires. Would you?

So if that's the case, then Buckley has no place going public with criticism of the umpiring.

Unfortunately, he can't. The fine to Clarkson is an example of what our league headquarters do to coaches who presume to publicly question the quality of our umpiring in recent weeks.

But make no mistake, there will surely be an manner of polite letters and emails being sent behind closed doors away from the public and media gaze, because this weekend was absolutely diabolical from an umpiring standpoint. I watched the Lions vs Freo game and it was horrid as well.

I made it very clear our players butchered the ball as much as the umpires butchered their decisions against us.
